"We have Derrek Lee who's a wonderful, wonderful three hitter," Piniella said. "[Aramis]Ramirez is very productive at the four spot. And we've settled in with Soriano at the six hole, and I think he's comfortable with it. We really just have the fifth hole to look at, and I've talked to the new hitting coach [Rudy Jaramillo] at length about Marlon, and he thinks he can fit in there.

I doubt we see one guy lead off all the time. Theriot will lead off some. Fuk will lead off some. Fuld will lead off some.

i like fuku and theriot at the top of the lineup. both guys work a count and will take a walk. i thought the cubs offense worked better with them up there and soriano at 6 later in the season. if soriano can be healthy and produce it should mean 100+ rbis for him

I'll believe this when I see it.

Hey John Kirk, sorry - John Scorehead Kirk - which part do you not believe? None of this is a surprise. The real questions about the Cubs lineup are asked upthread.^^^

I'm a Cub fan, they will still struggle to get to 81 wins this year I'm afraid.

I'll believe Soriano is batting 6th when I see him actually bat 6th for at least 1 week straight.
As for the Cubs this year, other than the Cardinals, the rest of the division blows. I have the Cubs winning 84 games this year.
I look at this upcoming Cubs season kinda like the Bears season next year. Lets just get it over with so we can get the new regime on board.

This is (finally) the year that Soriano is not the regular lead-off hitter.

The Cubs will struggle for wins because of their starting pitching, no their lineup.

But the Cubs starting Pitching & lineup is better than every team in their division except for St. Louis.

The great thing about Baseball is that anything can happen. Every year there are a couple of teams who were predicted to do well, who stink, & visa versa.

well if fukudome leads off, that means the only everyday left-handed hitter will be at the leadoff spot. this lineup is doomed. marlon byrd batting 5th? you have to be kidding.

This team is going to fucking blow. Another poorly constructed 25 man roster by Hendry.
Who the fuck gives Marlon Byrd three years? Hendry should have been fired so as to not be able to do anymore damage to the team. He is a boob.
All that being said, how long 'til pitchers and catchers report, Keyser?

What was wrong with Scorehead saying he wouldn't believe Soriano is batting 6th until he sees it...hasn't Lou started off previous years saying someone else was going to bat leadoff, only to trot Fonzi's ass out there?

31 excruciating days.

Did you see any of Hendry's interviews during the convention? He looks awful. The man has aged worse than a President.

Has there ever been another time in Chicago where 3 of the 4 major sports head coaches & GM's should be fired? Vinnie & Pax, Lovie & Jerry, & Lou & Hendry. We have a bunch of spineless pussys running these 3 organizations.

'90s: Wandstadt & McCaskey (BEARS), Essian, LeFeberve, Treblehorm & Himes + Riggleman & Lynch (CUBS), and whoever was responsible for f'ing up the Blackhawks after '92.

If Marlon Byrd is hitting 5th, they're screwed. Why wouldn't Lou have Soriano hit 5th? Soriano did fairly well in the 5th spot playing for Texas.

Soriano batting sixth in 2010, my ass. Guarantee by early May, if not earlier, the stumbling old drunk waddles up to a mic and says

ah, ah, we, ah, you know, we, ah, the Soriano an I we had a talk, and, he's, ah, well, you know, he's not happy, and, ah, he says he has to be happy, and, uh, we want him to be happy too, and we're gonna try him at leadoff now and then, because, ah, he, ah he feels he can be better there, and if that's better for the team, ah, well, hey. It's better for me. Right? [laughs, prompting laughter from assembled press.] You know what i mean, right? Yeah. Yeah. So, ah, that's what we're gonna do now.

I will make a bet with someone that Soriano is not the everyday lead off man this year, barring injuries.
