In conjunction with the 100 year celebration of Wrigley Field (and 106th year of celebrating chokes, failure and ineptitude), a "new Wrigley" will be unveiled. The triangle building is planned, along with many other major renovations. All for more money for the Ricketts!

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-17-cubs-brite-chicago-jan17,0,1790453.story

Okay, you knew that Ricketts had just paid a lot of money for this building and you also knew that he had to do work on the place to bring in more revenue. I dont fault him for that. That being said, am I the only one getting the perception of the Ricketts being overfocused on building new revenue streams? Maybe that is a good thing, I dont know.

You never hear about owners of teams in other leagues trying to build "other revenue streams". What is with baseball? What is it with this organization in particular? What is up with Kaeding w/ 3 misses?

I think it's a case of the Ricketts being cash poor at the moment, thus creating the need for increased revenue streams. That being said, getting rid of Hendry would create several new revenue streams as he wouldn't be bidding against himself and giving out contracts of questionable length and money.

From what I was told, 4 years worth of $100 million goes to the banks and they own the team clear and free.

Thus the $100 million going to the banks, then starts going to the construction.

Of course during this 4 year buy down, then the 2 years of construction, I am basically an investor for the the 2016 season!

Bye that time the real bad luck charn should be gone

I was at a community meeting yesterday where Lufrano presented that they intended to have 3-4 concerts this year. That is above the 1-2 they have had in the past. They are looking for every alternative revenue stream possible.

of course the community bitched that they were insensitive for scheduling one on yom kippur and that these additonal dates are getting burdensome but that is a story for another day...it took every fiber of my being to keep from saying they could avoid all conflicts by scheduling in October. If I was there as a civilian I think I would have made the comment and caused a riot

and the community holds them up for a "donation" of $75,000 per concert...could you imagine continuously using your building for the use for which it was built 100 years ago and then being extorted by a group in order to continue that use...only in Chicago (and a few rogue states around the world)

Can someone please help an outsider out with this whole story? What power does the local community have over usage of the park and what the Cubs choose to do with it? Why can't the Cubs just tell them to fuck off?

The community has no formal power. The use of Wrigley Field at night is controlled by statute, which is controlled by the City Council which defers opinion over the matter to the local alderman whose sole focus in life is to retain his job resulting in an almost pure and entirely nauseating democracy in many wards...and so the Cubs give $75,000 for every night concert and are told maybe.

Alderman wants to get re-elected so he allows community group to have a say in things. Happens in every ward.

Problem is the people in my ward dont give a shit about the games or the park. They just complain about living here on a constant basis.

The whiny brats move into an area around the ballpark and complain about the noise.

My favorite whiny spoiled brat yuppie though of all time was the moron who called into WLS and went on and on about how Cub fans have destroyed her lawn and such during her week long vacation she had just got back from that morning.

Problem is the Cubs had been on a road trip for 10 days.

Yes I'm sure all the other owners in sports never pursue things to make money.
