SAN ANTONIO -- Word around the league is that the Bulls are one of the more active teams in advance of the Feb. 18 trade deadline.

Soon, there will be proof.

In a minor move, the Bulls and Hornets have agreed to swap reserve center Aaron Gray for veteran shooting guard Devin Brown. The trade has yet to formally clear the league office, but it is expected to become official later Monday.

ESPN's Marc Stein first reported the trade, which was confirmed independently by the Tribune.

Isn't Devin Brown the dude that lit up the Bulls for like 7 threes in the first half of a game this year?

I believe the James guy is injured and they did not get him so that he could play, but got him for his expiring contract

 Jimmy, no offense but you arent a big basketball guy are you? Jerome James had one good playoff series, and parlayed that into $30 million and 5 more years in the league than he should have been in it, thanks to Isiah the philanthropist.

I really don't understand this deal. There's also the fact that Noah may miss extended time with his current injury, I think you need a body on the bench at least for the next few games, even if he is a stiff. This deal probably would still have been available in a week or two, why pull the trigger now? Who plays Center if Brad Miller gets in foul trouble?

True, but if you are relying on Gray for 20 mpg, under any circumstance, you're in major trouble down low. In a vacuum, Brown is definitely a better player.

I agree. But now I've just been reading that Miller has got some knee issues right now. Will this team have a healthy center if he goes down?

Ya I am a little puzzled by this deal myself. I get that overall Brown>Gray but just doesn't seem like this wouldn't have been on the table in the future.Maybe they plan on playing Hunter at Center

Maybe this is a precursor to unloading Captain Kirk for interior muscle?

Aaron Gray is my guy. I haven't dealt with this kind of loss on my Bulls since the buy-out of Viktor Khryapa.

Well the main problem with an injured Noah would be Vinny's inability to coach. If D'Antoni had this problem, he could make a starting 5 of Rose-Kirk-Salmons-Deng-Tyrus work, simply because they'd be running the hell out of the 4's and 5's on one end. If you are forced to give up size and strength at the 4 and 5, this is the obvious counter measure. I would even prefer this to trotting out Gray to muck up both ends and get dominated. However, Vinny doesn't seem to lend himself to this type of style of play often enough. So... in other words, they'd be fucked if Noah and Miller were hurt.
