MOBILE, Ala. -- The Bears' search for an offensive coordinator continues to be an unpredictable process.

Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson, who was headed to Chicago for an interview with the Bears today, was a last-minute scratch, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.

A similiar situation occurred when the Bears set up an interview with then-USC coordinator Jeremy Bates, who pulled out at the last hour after agreeing to join Pete Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks.

Jackson previously met with the Oakland Raiders about their offensive coordinator position. Before working to develop quarterback Joe Flacco the last two seasons, he was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta (2007) and Washington ('03).

Something else is going on here. This amount of difficulty in even getting people to interview can't be explained simply because Lovie is on the hot seat.

I mean, this guy met with the Oakland Raiders but turned down the Bears?

It makes me wonder if Ron Turner has been pretty open on just how the working environment was last year. Didn't Turner basically ask Lovie why he wasn't getting fired also? At this point, I think it's pretty likely that Turner was the one that called Cutler a "coach killer".

There is more to this story and the Bears might as well promote Mike Tice right now.

yeah, i wouldn't doubt there's something fishy going on. like they're only offering 1-2 year contracts, plus no pay in a lockout situation.

I think I see the Bears promoting some guy from the college ranks from some small college who will get all excited by the big city lights. How about bringing in Mike Hoehnsee (Rush Coach) for Offense & Steve McMichael (Slaughter Coach) for Defense. Right now,the Bears have gone from bottom of the barrel to looking underneath the barrel.

To have a guy blow off the interview to take the same position with the raiders is truly entertaining.

Something else has to be going on here. I knew it was going to be bad but not this bad. Build a baseball field and give moonlight graham a call, maybe then they will come.

It's going to be Martz or Tice. They are such assholes.

It's probably nothing more than a bird in the hand. Why interview in Chicago when you know you have the job in Oakland? Seems like common sense when you are just a guy. The Bates thing was different. He had more security and a owner that was throwing money around.

A real leader would end this farce by firing Phillips, Angelo & Lovie immediately. I honestly dont know how the McCaskey Family can let this situation continue. As the owners of the Bears, what must happen for them to say enough is enough?

Crazy Al and Oakland should never be a better option. That's what makes this so sad and sick. He canceled it and it makes the Bears look more stupid. They cannot give these jobs away.

Except for a brief stretch around 05-06, Oakland seems to almost always have been a better option. If Al regularly took his meds, the Raiders may have been a better option even then.

Consider that the Raiders have 5 Super Bowl appearances under three different coaches, in four different decades...and now have much more talent than the Bear, with Al still running the draft. (And if he took his meds on draft day this year, Darius Heyward-Bey is elsewhere & the Raider talent advantage is even greater)

Exactly my thoughts. This is similar to the previous scenario that got her son Michael fired. When will Virginia pull the trigger on this group?

They have not won more than 5 games since 02. They do not have more talent than the Bears. They are a complete joke right now and they are considered a better option.

It's not there yet. They haven't done the press conference for the coach who hasn't (and won't) agree on terms. I see a big train wreck coming, too, but it hasn't happened in the public eye yet.

Although I hate to do this, the Bear have just two(2) more playoff appearances, a few more (meaningless-Bernstein) regular season wins, a far inferior defense, similar special teams, and aside from Cutler(who would be a better Raider), Briggs, Urlacher & maybe Kreutz or Aromashadu( :? ) no one who would likely clearly start over his Raider counterpart.

Both teams are now complete jokes unfortunately.

IMO

IB - The Bears arent exactly a beacon of talent right now. I mean, they basically need help almost everywhere.

I don't have the energy to go through spot by spot, or group by group, but this Oakland = Chicago idea is laughable on its face.

Lets see, Bears' offensive & defensive backs: ...nothing.

Wide Receivers: Not much.

Tight Ends: The aging D. Clark and the candle, G.Reg, keep 'em

OLine: Hold out hope for C. Williams? Garza & Kreutz are servicable.

DLine: Harris wants to occaisionally play, the other backup DTs try hard, DEnds are a waste of $$$, well, in fairness Alex Brown also tries hard.

QBack: 26 ints., no QB coach, no O Co-ord, a coach who still wants to get off the bus running....in part because the crap home field is mush after 9/15, but hey Caleb Haney is awaiting in the wings.

Linebackers and Special Teams....make the PSL investment worthwhile, right?

I dont consider it laughable. I wont go as far as to say the Raiders are better, but they clearly have talent on the team. They are terribly run, and terribly coached, yet they won some games against some good teams this year. They werent that much worse than the Bears this season.

You missed the part where you compare those players to their Raiders counterparts. The Bears are better at WR, TE, possibly O-line (hard as that is to believe), linebackers, DT and possibly DE, QB, and special teams. Raiders are better in the defensive backfield and at running back.

Possibly QB?

Cutler is WORLDS better than any QB on the Raiders.

Possible DE and O-line. Definitely better everywhere else on the list, except DB and RB.

The Bears have less talent at WR, TE is proving to be a wash given that Clark is getting old, I'll take the Raiders DTs, DEnds are equally useless (Greg Ellis, Alex Brown & Ogunleye...bleech) and as for the O-Line, Gallery is the best of the bunch and the rest of them once may have been good, but not now.

QB...tallest midget award?

I think there's reason to believe Chris Williams will be the best of either team next season, assuming he's staying at LT

He was a long shot for the Bears job. Only a complete idiot would interview for a job they probably won't get instead of taking a job that they already have. If the Bears wanted to hire an OC it would have already been done. They haven't been told by anyone that they didn't want the job. What all of you guys are doing is overreacting. You guys are still going to gripe about anyone they hire unless they steal Tom Moore. FIRE EVERYBODY! That always the easiest solution for Bears fans.

The Bears are just like a college freshman at a frat party. If you get shot down by a bunch of girls just say you weren't interested anyways!
