Is His arm strong enough to throw a 2-out catch into the LF stands??

According to Yahoo Sports Tim Brown's Twitter, the Chicago Cubs have signed Xavier Nady to a one year deal, pending physical. His physical is scheduled for later this week. He is coming off of another Tommy John surgery, but is throwing regularly and feeling strong. He doesn't feel the arm should be an issue.

Why do the Cubs INSIST on signing injured players?

FIXED.

Cubs and Hendry are idiots. This is just another in a long line of stupid signing by Hendry. Yeah...now we will have to nurse him along through spring training....then protect him during the cold weather games....then rest him when he is used to much. Just stupid-stupid-stupid in my book.

Hendry is pissing me off.

Why would they have to rest a 4th outfielder because of over-use?

YOU'RE HIGH! This is a great move. IMO he is no worse than their second best outfielder when healthy. Byrd will be the 4th outfielder and Fuk U will play center. I was calling for this move a couple months ago.

Why is Hendry still the GM of this team?

There's really nothing wrong with this move.

Guy drove in like 97 runs a few years back, and he's replacing a Reed Johnson who was asking for similar money.

I'm not a Cub fan...

yeah this surprised me. Thought Hendry would give him 3 years...more money... and a full no trade clause.

He has a "handshake agreement" to start at SS and bat 3rd every day.

Nady has also played some 1st base. If the Cubs were so inclined, they might look at trading Derek Lee at the deadline, if they are not in contention and moving Nady over to 1st base. Until then, he might get a day per week at 1st as well as time in RF and once in a while in LF to give Soriano a day off as well. I have to believe he's the DH, if he makes it till the interleague games, without hitting the DL.

I'm still surprised you're still at your full bent obsession with getting rid of Lee. I know you loved Hoffpauir but what did Lee ever do to you?

C'mon. Why do you think he wants to trade Lee. It's pretty obvious...

I think Lee has been outstanding overall in his 6 years as a Cub. However, after hurting his wrist, he was really pretty mediocre in 2008 and he was awful the first 6 weeks last season. But to his credit, he turned it on and had a very nice season from that point on. But he's older...too old to sign to any extension that involves anything close to his current salary (14 million in 2010). The money they could save on his salary, could go a long ways towards shoring up a bullpen, that needs some help. It could also allow them to get another staring pitcher, if they wanted to go that route. No, Lee never offended me and I think he's a great team player. It's just better to make a move now, rather than later, when you get nothing for him, upon his departure as a free agent. Lets face it, if the Cubs were of the mind to keep him, Hendry would have been in discussions about an extension with his agent, some time ago.
