His Cubs numbers are very close to Dawson's over a 6 year period.

Why is this guy not more popular? It's not like he's a jerk to the media or something.

I wasn't obsessed with getting rid of Lee last year nor am I for the 2010 campaign. But is it really worth it to bring him back after this season?

You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there,” Obama said in an ESPN interview. “People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox, that’s baseball. South Side.”

Lee hadn’t heard of Obama’s interview, but said the comment doesn’t surprise him.

“I mean, he’s right,” Lee said with a grin. “I think most of the fans there are just there to enjoy the experience, and, uh, drink beer. I mean, is that not true?”

i am totally in favor of trading him and others, but not because i dont appreciate his play over the last 6 years. i think the cubs just need to unload what they can before the core of this team all erodes to the point where they have no value. lee has been real good for the cubs. i dont like him to the point where he is untradeable. im just sorry these guys have never been able to put it all together and win something other than a division title.

CLOSE???? Dan Bernstein said his numbers surpassed the Hawk's (comparing 6 year periods). Excellent job by Dan bringing that to the attention of Cubs Meatball Nation.
I wanted the Cubs to give DLee sometime to hit last year and if he failed, replace him with Micah The Immortal, too! The reason is because the year before DLee was not very good.
I always root for any guy wearing a Cub uniform and I am happy DLee rediscovered his stroke!

Well said. The future is with guys like Starlin Castro and Josh Vitters. Guys like Soto and perhaps Theriot (at 2nd base though) should also be a part of the future core. However, they need to rid themselves of guys who are approaching the point in their careers, where you will be seeing diminishing returns on the investments (salary) made in them. Lee was a very good aquisition. He has played very well in his time as a Cub. But he's to old to sign to an extension at anywhere near the rate he's currently paid at-14 Million in 2010. Unfortunately, the Cubs will be unable to rid themselves of Soriano and his ridiculous contract for another 5 years. But there is no point in continuing to do business as Hendry did in years past. Time to build with good YOUNG players, that are either developed in the minors, traded for (thats where trading guys like Lee comes in) or signed as free agents. If the Cubs come out strong and are in contention, they may well not trade Lee. But if the Cardinals are running away with the division, it would make sense to trade Lee before the trade deadline and get a good prospect or two in return.

Good point. I wouldn't get rid of him now but if you can get value for him and let some of the younger guys get a chance when you don't have a chance of winning this year you should do it.

Maybe it's just me, but doesn't the heavyset guy in the back row look a little dark for that roster?

I would include Aramis as another player that could be moved in July. If they move both Ramirez and Lee, Vitters becomes the third baseman and they could sign someone in free agency to replace Lee. V-Mart, Carlos Pena, and Adam Dunn are all free agents at the end of the season.

Yes Old man River and MOFO and everyone else. The Lee Ramirez Cubs are not winning a World series, now a good gm looks at that situation and makes the most of it.

Hopefully Jim Hendry will too

It would make sense to trade more than Lee. I wouldn't have a problem with them going the way of the Marlins and trading ARam and Z.

in my opinion, adam dunn was exactly the kind of middle-of-the-lineup presence the cubs needed. right between lee and ramirez, a fearful left-handed power bat.

Actually, he is kind of a dick. Backing up Barack Obama's silly-ass "Wrigley sucks" posturing was a stupid move.

EDIT: oh, this was quickly addressed. Also he did a lot of general "the fans are mean to us" bitching over the years, especially in 2006. I don't think he likes being here.

Exactly. Not like Milton and his subpar batting average and power from the left side.

Oh, on the Obama Sox thing, doesn't anyone else find it funny that Obama is basically doing an impersonation of white guys from Bridgeport to fit in as a Bona Fide South Sider? "Alls dey do is drink beer an look pretty on da nort side!" His heart was in the right place, though, I suppose, in terms of ingratiating himself to the natives as an untrusted outsider.
