670 The SCORE reports that the Kurtwood Smith-looking Rod Marinelli has been named Defensive Coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

So much for the "bringing in of new ideas" that was promised in the press conference by Phillips/Angelo.

Viva la Status Quo!

So let me get this straight:

Lovie Smith and 4 ex-head coaches from the NFC.

Good luck Chicago!

And they were so bad as head coaches they are assistant coaches again.

Marinelli running the defense, Martz running the offense ... worked great in Detroit! :eye:

I am sorry to say that I predicted both of these hires. The Bears are the laughing stock of the NFL. I just cant believe the McCaskeys can sit idle & let this crap continue. As I always say, the success or failure of any organization is always directly related to that organizations leadership, & the Bears don't have any.

Fuck the Bears. Can we get an AFC team here (Jacksonville?)? This organization has made me realize that I'm more of a Chiacgo fan than a Bears fan. Again, fuck the Bears.

Good thing we didnt hire them to head coach.

So weve established they are in jobs they are very good/great at. Thank you for supporting my point.

All of the meetings between Lovie, Martz, and Maranelli are going to take place in the middle of a four way intersection on TNT.

Brian,

Who said they were ever good as assistant coaches? Do you really like these hires? Really? Are you still a Lovie ALS'r??? Lovie, Martz, & Marinelli have all had average coordinator careers.
Please explain why this is good for the Bears though.

Actually, isn't this Marinelli's first Defensive coordinators position?

Why does promoting Rod make the Bears a terrible team? Would it really had made a difference if they hired the DB's coach of the Colts? It would still be the same defense coached by a guy who has never been a coordinator. At least Rod has more experience and has had time as a coach. Not sure why this is a bad move.

Marinelli has never been a D-coordinator though.

Marinelli has never called a Defense. He has never been a DC. Lovie will still be calling the Defense.
Does anyone think the Bears will win more games than the Lions next year?

Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't the great Ron Rivera allowed to call the plays? Wasn't he also a first time coordinator? Marinelli probably knows this defense better than anyone on the staff except Lovie. He is a guy that really loves to study film. Based on that the Bears should be prepared to play. I'm excited about him getting the job. He was the guy Jerry and Lovie wanted when Lovie got the job. Lovie now has the offense he wanted and the mastermind of it calling the plays. He also has the defensive coordinator he wanted too. Jerry will get him the players because his job is on the line too. There will be no excuses for another mediocre season.

That is exactly the problem.

Good news for you is they will be fired after the season if they have another mediocre year.
