Just get it over with and whore the whole schedule out to Comcast already. Frustrating that it's more lucrative to broadcast on glorified public access than on a national cable channel. It sucked to watch national Braves games dwindle away to nothing. This hurts tenfold.

It's a sign of the times that there will be more Cub games on channels other than WGN this season. Even before the Ricketts family bought the franchise, there have been a decrease in games besides the Cubs on Channel 9 locally and WGN America, DIRECTV 307, nationally.

As many of you should know by now, WGN is still owned by Tribune Company, and needless to say, they have more than a casual interest in the CW Television Network. I'll say this until I'm blue in the face. The CW, and their WB Network predecessors, do NOT like it when WGN locally pre-empts their programming for sports, regardless if it's the Cubs, White Sox & Bulls. The network says that the pre-emptions hurt their ratings, even if Joe Viewer in other cities isn't necessarily watching.

I know this for sure. CW bosses aren't going to be thrilled that a Bulls' game vs. the Knicks at United Center will preempt their programming Tuesday at 7p.

Shark doesn't like to miss the new episodes of 90210?

I haven't watched 1 episode of "90210", let alone the new "Melrose Place" for that matter...I was trying to explain why the CW doesn't like it when WGN pre-empts their programming for sports during the week.

WGN would probably do better numbers with full slates of the Cubs and Bulls than all this CW shit anyway. Oh well, Chicago Cubs baseball, an American tradition, right here on Channel 9, or Comcast SportsNet Chicago, or Comcast SportsNet Chicago Plus which is CLTV for most people but not others, or Channel 26, or ESPN, or Fox, or the MLB Network, or up Tom Ricketts's ass, or whatever. Man, life was easier when cable was such a novelty that VH1 and Comedy Central had to split a channel. [SHARK]Or at least they did on the late TCI Cable system in Arlington Heights, circa 1994.[/SHARK]

As far as I know, I have WGN America here in Kenosha, and whenever a Hawks game is on, it's on WGN Chicago channel 9.
Apparently the 2 channels are programmed differently , which means I can't watch them.
I hope I don't have the same problem with the Cubs

Baseball is on both. Hawks are just on 9. Some Bulls games are just 9 and some are both. The whole system is really stupid. Once again, this shit is way harder than it needs to be.

Even though both channels are Tribune-owned, WGN America's programming is indeed different than Chicago's CW9. While you can see the likes of "Two and a Half Men", "Family Guy" & "Friends" reruns on Channel 9 locally, WGN(A) features the likes of "America's Funniest Home Videos" w/Tom Bergeron, "South Park", "Bones", "Boston Legal", plus "Outta Sight Retro Night" every Sunday night with "The Cosby Show", "Newhart", "Barney Miller" & "Cheers" starting at 6p.

On the bright side, you can still listen to Ron Santo for free on AM720!

I could care less what channel they are on. I have access to all the channels they will be on, and I live in Chicago.

I've never had any trouble watching the games on 9.

Having to play "Find the Game" so much is a real pain. I wish we could just have the Cubs on 9 all the time and the Sox on CSN all the time and that would be that. No 26, no CLTV, no tedious guessing games.

They pretty much look like ass regardless of who televises the games.

This is a function of the Cubs brass being total idiots in the 80's.

The ad rates they should have been charging should have been through the roof. They gave national, featured ads for local rates for 10 years. They never seperated the amazing value of an ad across the nation. They just got happy selling their Ch 9 to a few cable companies.

Thus, without Ch 9 charging anymore than CIU, why not sell the rights for the games and show reruns of The Golden Girls?

The only guy who gets any credit at the Tribune company for the Cubs becoming the national team they are are the guys who decided to buy them for the 400 hours of renewable programming for $20 M. That is why they bought them. No other reason.

The Cubs brand is as big and bulletproof as it is largely because of the national TV audience they cultivated over the course of 50+ years. Getting more $ from Comcast in the short term will probably end up hurting them in the long term as each generation loses fans.

BIBGO! You're not going to get national carriage for Comcast SportsNet Chicago. It might not even be legal to carry an RSN outside its region.

WWE Superstars is on WGN America on Thursday nights. WWE Superstars does not air at all on WGN-TV in Chicago anymore.
