Im starting to get excited about the show again, mostly because I just want the thing to come to a conclusion for bad or worse.

<kind of spoilerish...>

Indications are that the plan to blow up the island succeeded... with consequences  Let's see... if last season was very close to a Back to the Future plot, and we remember what happened in Back to the Future 2...

All I figure is that one of the last, if not the last, scene should/will be Hurley reading the numbers to be broadcast over and over from when they started the show, as some "warning" whose intentions are/were obviously unclear until it was way too late.

That, or Ed Begley should wake up in bed with Bob Newhart and talk about his weird dream.

I'd apologize for ripping on BTTF 2 & 3 if there were some sort of section for that kind of thing.....and if I was actually sorry for doing so.

FWIW I too, am semi-intrigued by the upcoming season.

interesting interpretation. I've always pictured asshat as an ass on top of a head. A head wearing a hat not an ass wearing a hat.

And Ben's dad is/was Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite fame.

If you've got Comcast, OnDemand has a bunch of Lost recaps etc to jog your memory. Just go to the TV section. Damn, I'm excited for this

i'm watching the final season.

i really hope the final scene of the final episode involves the epiphany that this was all a dream concocted by a fish in the ocean.

There are a ton of people from this show that have had roles on Deadwood. If Al Swearengen shows up on the island, it will be the greatest show ever.

So, instead of time travelling this season, we have some sort of parallel universe? Ugh.

I'm sick of the goddamn island. I'm too invested with 5 seasons under my belt to NOT watch the show, but I'm fed up with the all of the new bad guys on the island. I wish they would just focus on the lives of the main characters as if Oceanic 815 had never crashed. They had their chance to abandon the island but didn't.

Loved the scene where Jack offered his card to Locke for a free consultation for his spinal cord injury. That was cool.

I thought this was a really good episode. I think no matter what parallel universe they are in they are destined to be on that island somehow

Another former Deadwood cast member showed up last night. I better see Ian McShane before this show ends.

The souls remain on the island.

The bodies have moved on to LAX.

...those poor unlucky bodies.

I kind of feel the same way, but with the way this thing keeps changing, does it really matter that we've watched 5 seasons worth? Someone could have watched a 1 hour "catch-up" show and known just as much as us about 3/4 of last nights episode. I think the writers have A.D.D. or something so they can't stick to a "main idea/storyline" for more than 3 episodes before some new fucked up idea takes it's place. It's 1 episode into the 6th season and I think there's been 3 or 4 different groups of "others", the plane crash group and the people from the boat on the island. This place doesn't seem to be as hard to find as they make it out to be.

Not surprised there haven't been any comments for a few weeks. Last week's episode sucked, and even last night's Locke-centric hour left me more annoyed than entertained.

When the show focused on flashbacks and then on flashforwards, it was cool to see how all of the characters interacted off the island. I especially enjoyed the flashbacks where main characters criss crossed in each others' backstories.

Now, with the parallel universes, seeing Hurley interact with Locke and neither of them knowing each other bugs me. I'm at a loss for exactly why, but after however many years of watching the show, their new angle is "all of these characters cross paths but don't know each other?" Pretty weak if you ask me. Not sure what I was expecting for this final season, but I know I was expecting better than what I've seen so far.

100% agree.

This season has completely sucked. No reason they had to do this gay ass parallel universe crap. Its too hard to follow and I really don't give a crap what would've happened if the plane didn't crash.

heh, did you all just wake up or something? This show has sucked for 4 seasons. dan bernstein's right, i turned my brain off for this season and it's actually a lot more entertaining that way.

and for those who still think for some reason there's quality to this show, i don't wanna hear any bitching when the series finale "pisses you off" or "was a total pile of shit". late bandwagon jumpers kept this piece of shit afloat, so you go down with the ship.

i'll be on the life raft laughing at you.

Wow, pretty passionate responses. Now, I'm not a late bandwagon jumper, but since I still watch, I guess I qualify as one who's helping to keep the "piece of shit" afloat... :?

Cynic that I am, it actually doesn't surprise me that a show that is pretty unique, in that it is a true, long-running serial, that requires some dedication (i.e. patience) to stick with the plot, and challenges the viewer, invokes responses from the masses that it is "too hard to follow" and "I had to "turn off my brain". This is the same culture that heaps praises on a show like Deal or No Deal ("Pick suitcase number 5! Aw, I think I would have picked suitcase number 8!") Our intellectual capacity seems about as thin as it has ever been. Maybe it's just the dumbing down of America, or the "on-demand" generation, I don't know.

I do think it's a quality show. Why does that mean I don't have the right to judge the finale on its own merit?

And what do you mean you are laughing at me? You're still watching the show, apparently, even though you think you are a sucker to do so. You seem to be building a self-defense mechanism whereby if there is not a satisfying conclusion, you can claim some kind of victory over others who have spent no more time than you consuming the product. Isn't that odd, or am I misunderstanding?

I would presume that they are showing the parallel "what would've happened" lives to demonstrate (a) their paths were destined to cross no matter what, and (b) that if they hadn't crashed, eventually their lives (or maybe even more) would all eventually go to shit because they didn't meet their "fullest destiny potential"* ... have to give them time to slow-burn that one over the season though.

i already had my day of bitching about the show losing credibility and just doing things to be convoluted.

as i said, when you stop thinking about it, it can be kind of entertaining. but when you start questioning it, it starts to fall apart. the characters have been reduced to cliched one liners you can see coming from a mile away.

and the dialog is just awful. they use the tired method of "don't answer a direct question; ask one yourself or ignore it", and the gun-draw-but-i-won't-shoot-you is laughable.

the show is loaded with plot holes. and they try to cover them by inventing more characters we were supposed to know about already. the writers of this show get away with so much deus ex machina it's sick.

When it's all over, if the writer's could come out and show some kind of storyline that had the basics of the show setup from the beginning, I'd give them more credit. To me, it seems like they just keep making crap up to twist the story or add episodes of filler that do much overall when you look back at it.

I'm not sure why, but I actually like the "if the plane didn't crash" stuff more than the island this season. I'm tired of new characters, time travel, etc. every 6 episodes on the island. Of course, that assumes the "didn't crash" includes some kind of ending that's good.

there will most likely be a twist involving the "if the plane didn't crash" bit as well. probably will bring it full circle with the crash and stuff.

But come on, WZ, you understand poetic license, don't you? The show is a mystery, and as such, the answers cannot come until the end. To claim that if the characters would only ask the right questions, and get straight answers, the mysteries would be solved, defeats the entire purpose.

And I don't want to get into a whole thing here about plot details (God knows there are a million message boards for this show), but, what are a few of the many plot holes and deus ex machina's you are referring to? I have no doubt that viewers will be left to "fill in the blanks" for a lot of things, using some grand far-reaching plot explanation, but I don't know I'd go as far as to say anything thus far is impossible to resolve.
