Jow Cowley writes that the Sox "are going from long shots to frontrunners in the Damon sweepstakes the last few hours."

Sweet. Go get 'em, Kenny!

The White Sox have pulled their offer to Johnny Damon, reports Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. White Sox GM Kenny Williams said he had to withdraw it.

"It became clear to us in our recent negotiations that the money that we were offering was not going to be good enough for Johnny at this time," Williams said.

Williams said the White Sox are "very much interested in" Damon. Levine hears that the White Sox offered him $6M. Levine's sources tell him that the Tigers never offered a two-year deal; they have only offered a one-year $7MMcontract.

Damn.

The Tigers have more$ on the table anyway, nothing wrong with doing this.

This has to stem from their disdain for Bora$

I would have left the offer there... If I could take $1m less to play in Chicago over Detroit, i'd take it.

They may have pulled the offer, but in reality it is still there. If he comes and says he will sign, they will give him that money. I imagine that once everyone reports the offer is dead.

I don't know how the Damons will like Detroit after disparaging it.

Another free agent prices himself out of the White Sox. Angry Kenny Williams press conference about how they were THISCLOSE forthcoming.

Sources told ESPN that the Tigers and Johnny Damon have come to terms on a one-year, $8 million contract.

Damn.

Cheap ass White Sox. That would have been a great pickup but Williams & Reinsdorf couldn't subjugate their massive ego's and cough up the cash. They basically said "fuck the fans". What a shame. But hey, they got Rios! LMFAO!!!!

To be fair, $8 mil's too much for Johnny Damon. Nevertheless, it's gotta get tough to keep selling this whole outpriced thing. I mean, come on, the Chicago Bulls exist solely to generate money for Reinsdorf to piddle away on his baseball team. God knows it doesn't go into the Bulls. The Sox cry poor a lot.

Looks like Kotsay/Andruw Jones for DH. I'd take Damon in a New York minute. Calculate the additional profits that 8MM would generate with wins (and the attendance jump) compared to Kotsay/Jones. Cheap ass White Sox for sure!

If someone told KW Damon would sign for 8 million at the beginning, he would have never entered the negotiations.

I would have rather made a bigger push for Matsui and his huge porn collection.

I can't figure the Tigers out ... they let Granderson go to the Yankees, because they can't afford him, then turn around and give $8MM to Johnny Damon.
