The Orlando Pace experiment in Chicago appears to be over.

The left tackle was cut by the team on Monday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The seven-time Pro Bowler spent one season in Chicago after signing a three-year, $15 million deal before the 2009 season. The former No. 1 pick spent the rest of his 13-year career with the St. Louis Rams, where Bears coach Lovie Smith was defensive coordinator from 2001-03.

Pace was charged with protecting the blindside for the Bears' prized new quarterback, Jay Cutler. But Cutler was sacked 35 times and led the league with 27 interceptions for a Bears team that stumbled to a disappointing 7-9 record.

Former first-round pick Chris Williams replaced Pace toward the end of last season. Pace, a three-time first-team All-Pro, has hinted that he may retire

Those buses frequently empty in the Grayslake area. Think they might think to route those buses so they go FROM train stations TO somewhere useful?!? Instead of meandering like a brook?

Wow, I blinked my eyes... when did it START?

Bigger disappointment:

Orlando Pace as a Bear

or

Golden Richards as a Bear

While he wasn't nearly as good as he used to be I really didn't have a problem with Pace. Sure he struggled with speed guys at times but overall he did a solid job at LT.

If you look at the Pace signing from a macro perspective Hova, the signing was a disaster from the start. He insisted on playing LT which retarded the development of a guy the Bears used a high draft pick and a load of money on the previous year. It also forced Omiyale, a guy you signed for starter money, into a role at guard that he had never played and was not prepared for.

They would have had a better line (and a better season I believe) if they had stuck with Williams at LT and let Schaffer and Omiyale battle for the RT position with either Beekman or a veteran signee at OG.

I agreed with the Pace signing at the time.

I thought it was the Bears staff that wanted to get Chris Williams feet wet after playing in just a few games because of a back injury. I still believe that was the right move. You don't trade for a franchise QB and have a rookie protect his blindside. Pace did a good job at that until Williams took over. That may have created a problem at G but IMO that problem would have still been there. Beekman was worse than Frank O last year. In fact Frank O regaining the form he had in camp is one of the reasons the O-line was better at the end of the year. Going into this season G will likely be a huge problem because of the aging of Garza and a hole at LG that still needs to be filled.

No dolphin is right. Even if that was the case they kept Pace at left way too long.

How many games? Do they make the switch after Week 4? What was the right amount of time to get Chris Williams ready?
