I heard something about some guy named Adrian Gonzales? He was a well kept secret playing for a club team on the west coast called Los Padres? Who would have known they aren't looking to hand out big contracts for free agents? Kenny Williams is lucky Jake Peavy found the guy for him!

I would expect after this season they do look to trade him, assuming he has a comprabale or better year, I think the Padres know that they will get more in the offseason, or at least a better likelyhood of that happening as they just saw what happened with Peavy and didnt get what they wanted.

FYI, any other teams in Chicago have a 1B on the last year of his deal?

While I am not bragging about the Cubs farm system, I am way too old and wise in my Cub years to know things are not what they seem, but I have seen them ranked as high as 10th and none of them are breaking camp with the team, but the point being, they have guys to trade. Vitters, Castro, Jackson all 3 top 50 ranked (which is higher than any Sox players, just had to add that because I know Frank will have some response on how highly regarded Tyler Flowers is)

During this season they have other players that are suppossed to be on the verge of development and once again I know just because Jake Fox hits .400 in AAA, it does not make him an All Star, but they are top prospects that others team, like the Padres value highly and will take the risk as they dont have to pay them much.

Guyes like Cashner, Coleman, Colvin all AA top performers and just in case some are not aware, AA is the real test. Many guys go right from AA to the bigs, hanging in AAA is Fuldish, Scalish, Foxish.

If he doesn't sign an extension (which is highly doubtful) Gonzalez will be traded this year. There is absolutely no reason for the Padres to hang onto him for the entire season because they will not contend and the sooner they trade him the more value they'll receive. If the Cubs are going to get him they have to trade for him this year which is also highly doubtful.

He does have a team option for $5.8 Million next year, thus they dont have to trade him this year and I would expect the asking price to be at it's highest during the season this year before the trading deadline, then drop down a bit in the offseason and then I would not expect him to start the season next year with SD.

The asking price will be the highest at the deadline and someone will pay it.

the only trading the cubs should be doing this year is trading AWAY, not trading FOR. they need to acquire as much young talent as possible in exchange for the aging core of this team, so we dont have to watch the titanic slide under and be left with nothing but old guys with expiring contracts that nobody can use.

Gonzales was a #1 pick, good minor league HR hitter, never really had a chance to develop with Rangers in 2 years played about 70 games. He has a sweet Grace like swing.

I think this guy is clean

So you think he's a lot like Carlos Quentin?

He raked at Kane County in 2001. They had a pretty fucking phenomenal team at the time. Played alongside Miguel Cabrera and Josh Willingham (Willingwho? these days). He was only 19 years old that year, but hit a wall as he moved up through the minors. Texas didn't wait on him because he sucked in his call-ups and wasn't making any progress down on the farm. Whether or not he's "clean" is of little concern to me, personally, but there's only one other player I can think of who's had the same awkward path to MLB stardom and that's Carlos Pena, and even that's an unfair comparison to what AG has done with the Padres.
