It sucks that nobody in the audience claps for some TRUE (old timer) Hollywood heavyweights during the Death Video Montage, yet Brittany Murphy gets applause.

His bit part as the director of the musical in Blazing Saddles kills me everytime I see it.

I enjoyed his son's work in 21 Jump Street. I figured him to turn into a fatty fatty 4x4 like his old man, but no:

...and Holly Hunter.

WZ, wasn't he in Lost for a smidge too? Fisher Stevens? About as long as he was in Michelle Pfeiffer.

When did they switch the category to "Best Pitcher"?

They've had some odd lesbo thing going on for months ... Streep I'm sure is acting, but not Sandra ... if she's not mouthing muff, then I'm from Mars.

And yes, I know she's married ... so was Rock Hudson folks.

Also, Barbara Streisand? Where the hell is Coppock when you need him ...

I actually don't mind that 'newer part' of the schtick.

Man alive Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were brutal.

I also loved Samuel L. Jackson's reaction to Mo'Nique's acceptance speech. Priceless expression.

it was a waste of their talents. once again the show felt long, strained, boring, and sometimes plain embarrassing.

bigelow's second acceptance speech was really awkward. i thought for sure she was going to start mentioning that some people don't have maps...

Die Hard is on TNT now. Thought the Clooney angryface bit was pretty good. Other than that, it was fairly typical. The seating of the two director ex spouses next to each other was nice for some tension.

biggest failure? "meteor" was not nominated...yeah, it was a TV movie. so...i can't help that the most transcendent film of 2009 happened to be on television and not the big screen. it deserved best picture...EASILY.

I was glad to see The Hurt Locker win, and not because it represented any grand political statement, but because it was tight storytelling, great acting, and hit all the right notes thematically.

I'm kind of surprised Up in the Air was nominated. It was a good movie but unworthy of a nomination, let alone Best Picture. A Serious Man was weak by Coen brothers standards. The Informant! was better than both and got nothing.

i think "up in the air" was a good film but it was missing *something*...i was all for "basterds" winning it all until i saw "the hurt locker". i agree, it's a very well executed film and it's an important film to see.

I don't remember her name, but the woman who won for costume design gave one of the worst speeches I've ever heard. She came off as horribly self-impressed and unlikeable as she started her speech with "I've already got two of these..."

I think she did say that this one was dedicated to people who work on low budget, under-appreciated films but it still managed to sound smug and ungrateful as hell.

Edit: Her name is Sandy Powell

And being a three time winner, she herself should have been nominated for WORST COSTUME at the Academy Awards last night. Nice bracelets.

It's funny that the supposed "best picture" of the year is a movie that no one really seems interested in seeing.

And let me guess, the message of "The Hurt Locker" is that war sucks and takes a physical and mental toll on the participants? We should all be thankful that we have movies to tell us stuff like this! Otherwise we'd think it was all keg parties and watching television.

well, i would say, just watch the film and see for yourself. but i'll give you a short explanation anyway: while it certainly shows the agony of war (you can't really escape that), the overall story is about how infectious war can become to certain people, and how they can't live without it. "war is a drug" is a part of a quote that's in the opening of the film.

Kick the canuck's ass for best picture Kathryn, as you don't stand a snowball's chance in hell for best director!

The whole time that I was watching in between horse races last night, I thought that Suzy Amis was a shriveled Linda Hamilton.

The omission of Farrah Fawcett was brutal. Didn't she win something for Burning Bed? or was that a TV movie?

The John Hughes tribute was touching, but the actors standing on stage looked a bit awkward. Molly Ringwald looked like a deer in headlights; don't remember her breaking a smile. What the hell happened to Judd Nelson? It looks like there's something seriously wrong with him.

Was it me or did Forrest Whittaker look sick?
The only one I felt sorry for not winning a big award was Quentin, he had this misfortune of his best received picture coming out this year.
