I know there is a thread on this somewhere but I couldn't find it. Appears this
HBO mini-series starts in early March. Just saw an extended commercial for it and
it looks as good as advertised.

I really want to see it but don't have HBO. Does HBO stream their shows anywhere?

Can't believe I didn't find it. I guess I was looking for The Pacific as the title,
maybe that is how I missed it. I guess I'll just keep this one going for those
who watch it here in about 5 or 6 weeks.

Im looking forward to this. HBO has been replaying Band of Brothers every Sunday night and will continue until the Pacific premeire. I haven't seen Band of Brothers in HD before, and it looks pretty incredible.

I was wondering why they were replaying these, and now it makes total sense. It does look
great in HD. I remember watching these back in 2001 when they were new on a crappy TV.
No flatscreen, no HD. Didn't realize they were playing them Sunday evenings. I was catching
them on the weekend.

Yeah, there's an episode on every Sunday night at 7. Sometimes they start at 6:45 if the episode they are showing is a little longer.

Watched another Band of Brothers episode last night and wanted to bump this
thread. I really hope the new series lives up to the hype and trailers. It appears
they follow three separate guys rather than one company this time, not sure it
that is going to be a good thing or bad thing.

i am excited about the new series too, but i can't help thinking anyone holding "band of brothers" as the standard is doomed to disappointment in this show. thats not to say i think it will suck, but brothers was so good that it will be very hard for this show to meet expectations.

I've been re-watching 'Band of Brothers' on-demand as a lead-in to 'Pacific' this weekend. AT&T is offering 3 months free of HBO, so I'm good through about 70% of Pacific. I guess I'll have to pay for it a few months after.

Can't wait to see this, the Pacific gets the short end of the stick when it comes to WWII.

I just finished Band of Brothers. I had forgotten how hard it was to watch the second to last episode where they find the concentration camp.

If Pacific even comes close to being as good, I'll be happy.

I would be surprised (pleasantly) if Pacific is as good as Band of Brothers. BofB had a huge megastar backing, does Pacific have that? Hanks and I think even Spielberg were involved with the production of BofB. Plus, it told the story of one company who happened to fight in all the big battles in the ETO. Is that the same format for Pacific?

Hanks and Speilberg were also involved in this series. How much more or less I am not sure.
As stated in an earlier post, this series will focus on 3 guys, not sure if from different companies. I am
not sure if this will help or hinder the series but it will be very different from B of B in this way
initially. Below is a brief recap of the episode playing this Sunday evening.

Season 1, Episode 1: Guadalcanal/Leckie
Original Air Date—14 March 2010
In the immediate aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Marine Sgt. John Basilone prepares to ship out and confront the enemy somewhere in the Pacific, while budding journalist Robert Leckie enlists in the Marine Corps. Eugene Sledge, unable to enlist because of a heart murmur, says farewell to his best friend, Sidney Phillips, who is about to leave for boot camp. Exactly eight months after Pearl Harbor, the 1st Marine Division, including Leckie and Phillips, lands on Guadalcanal in order to secure its strategically vital airfield and prepare for the inevitable counterattack.

i'm hoping it's different from "Band of Brothers" because we already have "Band of Brothers". i'm interested in this and hoping it's not just riding the coattails of a great miniseries.

whenever i see WWII stuff now i get a bit dubious.

great first episode. really came together toward the end. at first it just seemed very standard issue but the scene of the japanese solider flailing around while solders shot at him was excellent.

that's the type of stuff i'm looking for in this; some real depth has been delivered already.

looks good so far.

I highly doubt anything (let alone a war series) with Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks involved is gonna suck.

I opted for Celebrity Apprentice, but I'm tivoing The Pacific to watch during the week, since Nip Tuck and Celebrity Rehab have gone hasta la bye bye.

The first episode was pretty much what I expected. They needed to give some back story to make the characters "real". I saw some interviews with Hanks the past few weeks where he said they were going to try and show more of the "back home" stuff and how the families were impacted. It looks like a lot of that may be done with the letters.

Good first episode and the battle scene at night was intense. Also the
extended preview of the rest of the season after the credits really pulled
me in. Been waiting so long for this and thankfully it didn't disappoint last
night.

I though it was ok at best. Had a lot of trouble following which character was which. Plus the story jumped around a lot as if they were really trying to squeeze too much into the first episode.

I'm sure it will get a lot better, but so far it was just ok.

First episode was o.k.
It wasn't "great." Great is "Bastogne" or "Why We Fight."

I turned it off after the credits. Not a fan of previews...

Doug, compare it to "Curahee".
I'll take the first episode of "Pacific" in that discussion.
Comparing last night's episode to "Why We Fight" or "Bastogne" is an apples-oranges argument.
