This to me is the worst race I can remember (i'm a youngin, so cut me some slack) as far as a major vote in the state of Illinois. I can't believe just how awful our choices are this year. I need to research the third party candidate some more, but I'm leaning to him if he's decent enough (wouldn't take much) or writing in "Ditka." I say we start a "Ditka for Governor" ticket. Others who believe Rod or Judy are the way to go, please give me some factual reasons wy without sounding too biased....

It doesn't really matter WHO you vote for, the same people still will benefit from who is governor. The most telling thing about this election was the front page of the Tribune Tuesday morning. It showed Rich Daley walking down the street in the Columbus Day parade, with Blagojevich on one side of him and Topinka on the left. When Daley doesn't favor one or the other, then you KNOW you are voting for the same person regardless.

I may follow Kass's advice and actually (God forbid) vote for a democrat. If JBT gets in it will be business as usual but another 4 years of G-Rod may actually get the republicans off their ass and give us a viable canidate.

Nas- I wouldn't vote for Mother Teresa if she was going to raise my taxes or sell Lake Michigan to pay for her out of control spending. They're all scumbags but I'll vote for the scumbag that believes in the same things I believe in.

Not voting isn't an option for me. I was mad at Kass for a week after he wrote that article but then i realized he's probably right. Keep the crucifix and garlic cloves handy Stone. I'll probably still vote for her but I'm not happy about it.

And I believe that is a tired talking point. My decision to vote or not vote does not change the fact that we are consistently provided with dogshit candidates from both parties.

For the record, Nas, I do vote more often than not. The problem is I am not convinced voter turnout is going to improve the pool of career politician candidates, whom I feel do not have our best interests in mind, regardless of party affiliation.

I am afforded the right to complain because I pay taxes. I don't vote because I refuse to support an inherently corrupt, 2 party system that shuns outside voices. Career politicans have one objective: to get reelected. This would change if the 2 party system changed. It won't, so why should I vote?

I agree this argument is not only tired, it is dead wrong. I usually vote, but when I don't, I am not obliged to turn in my citizenship papers. I'm vested in the government and our officials regardless. I can praise them or bitch them regardless of whether I was present at the polls on one particular day.

A comparable suggestion would be "if you don't attend a Bears game, you don't have a right to bitch about anything that happens in that game." Attendance at a sporting event or attendance at the polls does not define one's vested interest in what happens there.

Cost has nothing to do with my main point. Everybody is part of our society, regardless of whether they are able to vote or not. I said the situations were comparable...not exact or literal.

By the way, voting can be damn expensive when people have to go out of town unexpectedly with such short notice that they can't vote absentee. You expect people to spend whatever it takes to get back to town to vote...or they relinquish their right to complain? People shouldn't have to give up their citizenship rights when some aspect of life (accident, emergency, sudden trip out of town) prevents them from getting to the polls. There are many possible reasons someone can't vote. That's one of many reasons I support expanded, flexible and early voting...which is becoming more available, but not yet commonplace in every community.

Once again Nas has trouble comprehending sentences. I just asked if anyone knew anything on him so I am beginning my "homework." Secondly, if you would read and comprehend what I said....



Obviously, I won't vote for him until I do homework on this guy to see if he is a decent candidate. It nowhere says, "I am voting for Whitney even if I know nothing about him.

And speaking of dumb, I find it almost like a wasted vote that you are voting for Judy Baar Topinka based on solely on HB4050 has taken money out of your pocket. As if he alone came up with this legislation. It was voted across both parties to get passed. It's not like Judy is going to immediately come in here and give you your money back. I can't believe that's how you are using your vote. To me, that's just as "dumb" as you put it to not vote at all. If you truly do your homework on the candidates and they truly all suck (which right now is looking like this gov race) then who are you to tell me to vote for the piece of shit that doesn't smell as bad. The hell with that.

Take a look at tomorrow's Tribune. They did a poll where they found 51% of their survey can't stand the choices for gov this year. You know the other 49% were blind loyalists to their parties.
