Mac always brings up Naperville's Rib Fest when poking fun at 'washed up acts'. That's why it's funny some of his favorite 'ALPO' bands are giggin in Naperville this July. I guess Nazareth had other commitments:

Just because Mac may have liked some of these bands in the 70's or 80's, doesn't mean you have to like them and go see them today.

Town fests are always bad, and the spending should be cut. Nobody should ever be subjected to Foghat, im sorry.

Naperville's lineup is usually the best in the area (this coming from a guy who pretty much hates everything you listen to; yeah, you.) Much better than what we got at Northlake Days growing up, which was pretty much American English & The Ides of March* each year. Highlights did include Steppenwolf and that time they tricked Selena (RIP) into coming out to Northlake by telling her she'd be appearing at Grant Park* (on Wolf Road).

* Who I didn't grow to appreciate until just a few years ago when a slick anthology of their earliest works was released in the post-Nuggets wake of manufactured nostalgia.

** Now CenterPoint Preserve or somesuch.

Having wound up at a number of these fests in the NW burbs over the last 15ish years, I can honestly say that the only one I really enjoyed was Blues Traveler at Frontier Days in Arlington Hts last year.

The Mrs. & I live for these fests! We enjoy the music,food,people watching & fireworks without having to drive far. I think the Naperville one is 10 bucks a head,but the ones around us are free: Arlington Heights Pioneer Days & Mount Prospect Fest. I still enjoy a Rick Springfield,American English or a 7th Heaven!

The last act I saw which was atrocious, was David Lee Roth. It is funny how they are following him up with Sammy Hagar now.

I sat in the rain 45 minutes a few years ago in Mt. Prospect but he got rained out. I saw him later up by Mundelein. His voice is shot,but I loved his music.

I will just have to disagree. I compare these type of events to star athletes that hang on wayyy past their prime. It's sad when they do it, and it's equally as sad to see bands have to lower themselves to playing gigs like this. Think about it. Most of these guys have toured the world, sold out arenas, and sold millions of records. Now they hanging around and are playing Naperville, Arlington Heights, etc...

It would be like Jordan signing up with the CBA and playing for another 10 years. He would still be able to contend, but it would just be so sad to view it.

Fuck, now I'm craving ribs and have the desire to hear "NO CONTROL".

I'll be in Traverse City for their Cherry Festival that weekend this summer. Eddie Money was supposed to play their several years ago, but his dad died or something, so they got the next closest alternative: Edgar Winter.

actually...these "washed-up" acts get more money to play one of these festivals that you'd think.
cheap trick got $25k a night to play the burlington chocolate festival in 1998...

It was pretty cool to see QR actually. I remembered all the songs "slick...black....cadillac!"

I saw Ted Nugent at Ridgefest a few years back, that was actually a pretty solid show. Of course, I was pretty drunk so don't take that so literally.

Here in Ottawa at our annual Riverfest, we we're treated to Eddie Money. I didn't go, but I did stand out on my back deck a block away and listen. Two years ago was the odd twin bill of Air Supply and Night Ranger. I was a pretty big Night Ranger fan back in the day, and Brad Gillis is great on Ozzy's Speak Of The Devil album.

I stopped going to ribfest years ago. WAY over crowded and no where to sit and eat your damn ribs. Ribs were over priced for such an event, and you had to wait in the longest f'n line just to get your ribs and go wait in another line to get your beers. So far as the music goes, maybe they have improved the sound system, but jesus-h-christ....my boom box plays louder than what they put out.

I'm not a fan of that event.

Aw, I loved Frontier Days when I was younger and lived in Arlington Heights. I went back to see the Gin Blossoms once.

One time, my friends and I were taking the train back from Orchestra Hall and we were chatted up by a very drunk fellow from Palatine, who was going on at great lengths about something called "Schaumburg Fest," which this year (2003) would feature, "Foghat, Tom Petty, Ted Nugent, Foghat, Ted Nugent, Foghat...AND TED NUGENT." He accused me of listening to "Fitty Cent" on my iPod at one point, then he stumbled off at the Mount Prospect stop, which was probably the wrong one for Mr. Palatine. I'll remember this forever.
