Every wonder how Calapari ends up at Kentucky in less than 24 hours, Crean to Indiana in 12 hours, Bill Self to Kansas in less time that it takes the Illini to get off a shot?

The Pump Brothers are the guys that do it! They are a search firm for college coaches! Thats the professional way of putting it. They are close with basically all the big time coaches. They know who will leave and for how much.

Thus if School X is interested in Coach K, the offer is made and accepted quietly and quickly. There is no Chicago Bears type recruiting process of coaches flying in to talk to the 90 year old hag who "runs" the Bears to see if the coach goes to church!

Addtionally, they have a ton of big time assistant coaches under their umbrella, thus if a program wants to go that route it can be done.

This is how the big time schools get this stuff done! DePaul does it some other way. This is not to say they cant make someone an offer they would jump at (Brad Stevens) but it doesn't make it the right way http://www.doublepump.com/

Yes the Pump Bros do look like Plump ZZ's

Mel, no porn site, promise.

These are the guys you need to know if you are a coach looking to upgrade, college or pros.

These are the type of guys Reinsdorf should have spoken to 3 years ago.

There are folks making money with all kinds of shit. I still think it takes someone on the inside to help you get your foot in the door, then once that door is open, you can make bundles of cash.

There isn't a major college coach who doesn't know these guys very well and I am 100% sure every single one of them has their numbers in their cell phones. This includes most asst coaches as well.

These guys are the cleaner and corporate version of Sonny Vicaro,

They are the promoter of 6 major all star games for high school players and the NCAA Limits on gifts per events is a nice bonus per event. All tourneys are sponsored by Best Buy.

I thought they are part of a big scandal, but I could be mistaken. Yeah, I have heard of them and they do seem to be the guys behind the guy.

"They don't have any idea what they're doing," an industry source told CBSSports.com, then went on to explain how athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto really did think she could lure UCLA's Ben Howland or Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon, common sense be damned. Overtures to both coaches were predictably rejected. The time wasted might've prevented DePaul from already having a coach in place.

They are at the center of every NCAA scandal. No less than 50% of the players and coaches of influence use these guys.

Here's the CBS article that Big Fan cites:

Gary Parrish of CBSsports.com wrote:
There are all sorts of stupid coaching searches going on right now.

Too many to count.

But the most delusional and disorganized belongs to DePaul.

True story: DePaul officials were told weeks ago that Tony Barbee was interested in replacing Jerry Wainwright, and that he'd be willing to talk with the Big East school as soon as his fourth season at UTEP concluded. It concluded March 18 with a loss to Butler. So it stood to reason that Barbee would get a call March 19, maybe March 20. But the call didn't come. Why? "DePaul was working off some dream list," the source said. "Phil Jackson was probably on it."

Meanwhile, Auburn called Barbee.

He interviewed with school officials last Tuesday.

And guess who called Barbee 24 hours after that?

"DePaul finally reached out and told Tony they wanted to meet him last Friday, but by then, Auburn had already offered $1.5 million a year, and he couldn't turn that down," the source said. "What happens if he tries to hold off Auburn to interview with DePaul, and then he doesn't get DePaul and Auburn moves on? He couldn't risk that. He had to take Auburn."

I wonder if BC's Al Skinner becomes a possibilty now - he's familar with the Jesuits and half-empty arenas:

cbssports.com wrote:
BOSTON -- Al Skinner is out as the Boston College basketball coach, ending a 13-year tenure in which he led the Eagles to more wins than anyone else in school history -- many of them in front of lackluster home crowds who never embraced the program.

Image

Athletic director Gene DeFilippo said Skinner's departure was by mutual agreement, but it had all the markings of a firing: Skinner will be paid for the remaining three years on his contract, and DeFilippo discussed at length the teams' shortcomings while referring to the move as "my decision."

A wise old man once told me, "You snooze. You lose." DePaul's search for a new head basketball coach has been talked about more than the dismal on-court product the last 2 years in which the Blue Demons have only 1 Big East Conference win to show for it.

Eventually, DePaul Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto will find their new head coach, but right now, it's not money that's the issue, it's power that's a problem. Also, has DePaul even interviewed anyone since the end of their latest bellyflop? :? Besides, has interim head coach Tracy Webster even been fired yet by the hierarchy on Belden Ave.? :?

No one wants to work for the Woman with 3 names. That is the real problem.

It's beyond that, Scorehead. There appears to be a power struggle in addition to DePaul prepared to pay top dollar and get little on the investment. The next head coach may have to work with current assistants on DePaul's staff rather than bring his own guys in. Besides, Tracy Webster hasn't been fired as Interim Head Coach...As far as I know.

Mel, when Ponsetto was on The SCORE with "Mully & Hanley" about 2 weeks or so ago before the NCAA Basketball Tournament, she never should've said how much $$$$ they were going to pay for their next head coach. Besides, what's the point in going out of your way to play "home" games at Allstate Arena?

Got a prediction, SHARK?

I'm going with Al Skinner, former head coach of the Bostonian College Golden Eagles.

All bets are off, Mel. Besides, I don't think anyone knows who they've interviewed, let alone who else has blown DePaul off in a search going nowhere.

Pittsburgh coach Dixon gets contract extension
March 31, 2010 2:15 PM | No Comments | UPDATED STORY
Tribune News Services

Scratch another name from the list of potential DePaul coaches: Pittsburgh has signed Jamie Dixon to a contract extension.

Dixon was already signed through the 2015-16 season, at a salary of about $1.6 million per season.

Dixon's record of 188-54 in seven seasons -- an average of nearly 27 victories per season -- is one of the best in NCA history for any coach at that period of his career. The Panthers have made the NCAA tournament every season under Dixon.

Dixon's extension was announced a day after football coach Dave Wannstedt signed a two-year extension through 2014.

Why am I not surprised? Jamie Dixon was NEVER a serious candidate to leave Pittsburgh for DePaul!

Why doesn't Billie Gillispie's name ever come up for DePaul?

He's talking with Houston for $500k/per and DePaul could certainly go over that, he's an ace at rebuilding programs, he usually doesn't stay long enough to get caught for whatever cheating he's doing, he's a name, and he'd increase tax revenue on liquor sales.

That's who they should get.

I think Billy is too DUI-y.

Per the ginger haired "genius", Reggie Theus is interviewing with the Demons on Thursday.

Well, if they want a "name" and make a splash, they're going to have to take some baggage. Gillispie's going to get a job somewhere and he'll do well before the implosion - might as well be DePaul.

Maybe you'll get lucky and you'll get 2-3 years before he explodes or succeeds and goes somewhere better.
