Ex-White Sox OF Brian Anderson ... a pitcher?

Brian Anderson ... the next Sergio Santos?

Former White Sox OF Brian Anderson has been sent to the Royals minor league system, but Kansas City manager Trey Hillman said he has opted to try to become a pitcher. Hillman said Anderson will start in the low minors.

"I'm not sure how that process is going to go, but its got to start at the very bottom." Hillman said. "We're milling through that right now. He's committed to making a go of it. So that's what we're going to do."

Anderson last pitched in college for Arizona, where he appeared in 17 games and had a 5.40 ERA in 21 2-3 innings.

Selected by the White Sox with the 15th overall pick in the 2003 amateur draft, Anderson has a .227 average in five major league seasons with 22 homers and 80 RBIs.

I'm trying to remember the last time the Sox had a highly touted outfield prospect work out... I keep remembering the Joe Borchards, Jeremy Reeds, Anderson, etc....

I don't know how well that's going to work for him, but I guess stranger things have happened.

He was sent out in that blockbuster Mark Kotsay acquisition.

This guy has had a pretty good career. I don't think he was a highly touted prospect though, kinda came out of nowhere.

I'll always remember getting absolutely bombed one of the first weekend I was out in Montana watching the Mariners' feed at a bar, and going crazy when BA hit 2 homers off of then rookie King Felix. It was at a point in that '05 season when the Sox were scuffling and needed a few big wins. I think this was shortly after Freddy Garcia threw a 1 hitter against the Twins and lost.

Brian Anderson was one of those guys that was the subject of a lot of calls during baseball season to both of Chicago's sports talk radio stations. B.A. always seemed to have quite a glove, but couldn't his weight. When I heard The SCORE's Connor McKnight mention the story in his updates last night, I thought it was an April Fool's joke at Connor's expense.
