I liked the drinky and punchy aspect of the episode, but I got no feel of how much time it covered. The pacing still feels wrong to me.
Were these relationships that developed in a matter of weeks or months?
Kinda makes a difference if I'm supposed to buy into the character's emotional state.

That's the feeling I got also. I actually didn't mind this episode.
Favorite part of this one was when they were on the train and they just got the new rifles and he was having target practice with the cows. They are for dairy asshole

I thought I heard on the black & white intro that it was longer, so I did the wiki search.

Quote:
The 1st Marines landed on the island of Guadalcanal, part of the Solomon Islands, on August 7, 1942 and would fight in the Battle of Guadalcanal until relieved on December 8, 1942.[3] Some of the heaviest action the regiment would see on Guadalcanal took place on August 21, 1942 during the Battle of the Tenaru, which was the first Japanese counter-attack of the campaign.[4][5] Following their first campaign, the regiment was sent to Melbourne, Australia to rest and refit. During their stay there they were billeted in the Melbourne Cricket Ground until leaving in September 1943.[6]

They were in Melbourne around 9 months - see what i mean about the pacing
That gives the Leckie romance a little more emotional baggage.

easily the best episode so far. i'd tell anyone who is looking for "band of brothers 2" to give up watching now. it's not the same thing at all. in a way, this is better character development wise. leckie's subplot with the girl/family i found incredibly captivating.

i didn't see previews for the next episode so i'm not sure which direction it'll head but i'd take an episode like this over episode 2 any day. much more compelling.

I think during the "Tom Hanks intro" for the episode he says something about the guys being there close to a year, but it's quick. You're right in that during the episode there really isn't any feel for time. everything they showed could have just as easily been 2 weeks. Although, the lack of respect for the MP's and the guys sleeping at other people's houses probably wouldn't happen that fast.

I kind of felt the same way about the championship match in the CSFMB hockey league. My opposition was "pretty blah". Ain't that right, shaker?

Last night was better than week 3, but worse than week 1 or week 2.

I know not of what you speak.

But on a totally unrelated note, Alex Ovechkin will be receiving a letter bomb this afternoon from an irate fantasy owner who's team fell apart in the finals thanks to the "great" 8's spectacular 0g, 2a, -2 performance.

Part Six was pretty intense.
Part Seven looks even more graphic and disturbed.

Series has been picking up steam since they hit Pelileu if you are in it
for the action. I expect a strong finish to the end. They have a long way
to go before the end of the war and only 4 hours to wrap things up. I
thought the last two weeks have been really good.

This has been disappointing overall. I'll finish the series out, but I really have not been impressed.

I agree, its been getting better. But, overall, a little disappointing. Last night was the first time it had that Band of Brothers feel to it.

Doug, you posted earlier about "Bastogne" and "Why We Fight". Those were episodes 6 and 9 of BoB.
I believe it's awfully premature to call it disappointing.
Part Seven looks pretty intense, and episodes about Iwo and Okinawa remain.
If "meh" is still the impression after the ninth episode, disappointing would be an appropriate description.

I don't get your point. I think Doug posted that those were his two favorite BoB episodes, but its not like he said he was underwhelmed by the rest of BoB. On the other hand, he has been underwhelmed by the entirety of Pacific so far. So even if a couple stand out episodes show up it might not be enough to save this series as a whole.

Nomination rejected.

My response was to Zack calling the first episode "great."

Episode 7 was pretty damn good.
the glassy eyed crazy dude tossing rocks in the blown up head of the Japanese machine gunner was worth the wait...

More reason to anxiously await the next two episodes.

True. But last night's episode was probably the best so far.

There are just too many moments in the series where the "War" part of the story loses focus. The Austrailia episode, and the Lecki in the the nuthouse episode really come to mind. Just stick with the guys hunting down Japs and the soldier's bonding on the battlefield and you can probably have a great story.

some pretty gruesome stuff last night too...seems like they're ramping up the violence.

Tom Hanks should hold his shit to a higher standard then.

its definitely been getting better, but there are still some issues with character development. Too many times a person has died, they show the guy on the stretcher, and I have no idea who that person is. That shouldn't be happening 7 episodes in.

Also, would it have killed the creaters to come up with a title for each episode? Everyone remembers "why we fight" and "bastogne" as well as several other titles from BofB so I don't understand why they would skip that in favor of the always catchy "episode 5", "episode 7" etc. Poor decision by Hanks and co.

One thing I must say is that the opening credits music has really grown on me. At first I was like, ok this is pretty good. But now I really like it.

Really good episode last night. Just like people have said probably the best one yet, I truely enjoyed the "shitting" incident.
"what the hell took you guys so long to shoot him?"
The glassy eyed dude is FUCKING CRAZY! Just that look in his eye says it all, and from what I am getting it seems like he doesn't want his boy to turn into what he has become.
