This makes sense. You have a set salary and if you use all or none of your sick days you still get that salary. If you don't use them you get a bonus at the end of the year. You are not getting screwed, you are just deciding whether its more important to get that bonus or to have the day off.

Me too. But I could see the motivation in times like these where everyone is looking for a little extra $. It actually helps the employer save money too by offering these incentives.

If I call in tommorow Ill get a full day's pay using one of my sick days.
So I get the same amount as usual.

If I dont call in. I still get my usual amount. Then in March I got a free half days pay.

German businesses are quite a study in tradition. Classism still exists big time in German companies. Political correctness is shunned too. At our company in Germany, they have a policy that dictates what kind of car you can drive based on your management rank in the company. Senior level executives can drive 7 series BMW's, mid level managers can only drive 5 series, & lower level managers can only drive 3 series. Parking location is also based on your rank. Senior execs park the closest to the building.
Hell, they still use the word fräu·lein to describe an unmarried German Woman. This even appeared on the company job application until recently.

Yep, that's what it comes down to. If Mac gave a shit about this job he wouldn't be calling in sick and taking personal days once a week. He hates his job so much he can't even make it through an entire week without playing hookey. Pretty sad considering what a cake job he has.

You don't have to hate your job to take sick time. I like my jobs, but I also like my free time as well so why wouldn't I take sick or vacation time?
