I found a black widow on the porch a few years ago and freaked out and did some research on both of these spiders. It appears as if you have to have a reaction to the bite in order to have your flesh eaten away like that. Most people do not get the reaction and its no different than any other bite.

the chilean breed is the most dangerous. and they're in north america, but i don't think they're around here.

the problem with brownies is that they don't come out and bite you; they're usually found in clothing or something and they only bite when you've pressed them against your skin--usually you don't even see them when they bite you.

brazilian wandering spiders are pretty scary, too.
