So, if you're not dead, you can't end up in hell. Even if you're alive in Nowheresville, it's still generally agreed that boredom beats the beard off of being on fire.

Now as I sit here, I'm starting to wonder if Richard's role isn't more like the Holy Ghost ... it could only come to us after Christ had left us (the final Ascension after the Resurrection, followed by Pentecost). The Holy Ghost is simply a messenger and (to be coarse about it) doesn't do anything except what he's told, asks no questions, and doesn't interfere (leaving free will on the table for any and all that receive whatever message he has). I'd do a lot better if we were all sitting in someone's front lawn and were drinking a little bit. Best part if my brief time at seminary ... sitting up to all hours of the night outside drinking and talking both shop and non-shop topics. People would come and go, including instructors now and then, but it was generally after dinner until around 2am ... except the night I dropped my pants and then loudly proclaimed I was the Whore of Babylon and demanded more wine, but that's another story.

and this is why it truly is best not to think too hard on this show. it makes the head hurt.

i thought about it a little more; i guess i could see the answer for why richard would want to live forever. maybe i'll spend a little more time on lostpedia and see if i can piece a few things together.

one thing about this show is that it's become so convoluted that there is a feeling of "lost time" when thinking about all the shit that's happened.

if anyone is up for the challenge, one the show is over i propose a full on "lost" marathon--episode 1 to the finale, STRAIGHT THROUGH watching. who's with me?! :drunken:

I know this really has nothing to do with the story/big picture, but how in the hell did the boat crash into the head of a 100' statue when the waves were small enough for the guy to see it's feet when he saw it from the bottom of the boat? :D

It time-warped for an instant to the 1970s where a huge wave had raised the boat a hundred feet in the air and then it time-warped back to real time and hit the statue square in the head.

I was not really happy with the episode. I was expecting ALOT more. Most of all, I was disappointed to find out that Richard only got to the island in 1867, I was hoping the Black Rock was from the 1600-1700s and that Richard was around 400 years old.

I was also hoping to see Richard working in his job during the 100 years before the others and Dharma showed up, I would've liked to see some of the other people who were on the island over the years.

And I still don't understand why the black smoke kills all those people? If he needs people to have someone kill Jacob wouldn't he want as many potential candidates for the job as possible??? Why did he kill all the other people on the Black Rock? Why not go up to each one, one by one and have them try to kill Jacob?

I don't understand how his duration on the island would have a thing to do with anything. 140+years there is still impressive.

I do agree though I could have used less time riding horses in the rain and more time seeing Richard interact with other people on the island as an official servant of Jacob before Flight 815 crashed.

Waste of an episode. One hour to tell us that Desmond is back on the island.

Which was a little surprising to me ... he seemed superfluous at this point.

Just tell me he's not "the package" ... I'm guessing it's Sun & Jin's kid - thus why no first name on Jacob's mirror wheel thing ... the new protector of the island I would guess - meaning if she's there Fake Locke can't leave?

btw did anyone else have trouble with the HD channel of ABC last night if you have comcast? the screen melted a few times, it looked like i was watching a really badly scratched DVD. same thing happened on the ESPN HD channel. i wound up having to watch it on the regular ABC channel which kinda sucked.

The episode may prove to have much more substance down the road. There were some great subtle hints at what may be happening:

1. Sun gets blood on her hands in the garden, then we see her with blood on her hands in the sideways world. It's possible that this and the fact that she is forgetting how to speak English are big signs that the sideways world and current timeline are merging.

2. Would be kind of cool if Sun can't speak English when she reuintes with Jin. Talk about a nice role-reversal from Season 1.

3. Very interesting that Widmore and Flocke have never met before....Flocke was just "myth and ghost stories" to him.

4. Major focus was put on Jack reaching out his hand for Sun to touch, in reference to Sun rejecting Flocke's reach earlier in the episode. Could be foreshadowing Jack's transformation for Jacob like responsibilities.

5. Hilarious to see Patchy back, and getting shot in the eye was a treat.

6. Locke lying to Claire about Kate not being a candidate, and after he needs her "whatever happens, happens"- intrigues me since we know Austen was name shown on the Lighthouse wheel. But a nice reference to Faraday's "whatever happened, happened".

6. I think, and hope, that Desmond being the package isn't the big deal....it's that the Desmond isn't the one we know...it's the Sideways time-shifting Desmond who was on the plane and off of it in seconds from the premiere. This could be a major factor for the two timelines.

Jorge Garcia has mentioned on his blog that by episode 13, there were already many deaths...that's 3 away. The scottish bagpipes of "Amazing Grace" may inidcate the bodies could start piling up.

Oh and Sun unbuttoning her blouse made my pants shift.

yep, mine had issues as well, especially in the beginning of the show. can't say anything about ESPN since I don't let that filth anywhere near my tv unless there's something on that I absolutely have to watch and that happens maybe 1-2 times a year.

Welcome, jimmyk3419, and thanks for your thoughts on what I thought was a most decent episode!

Finally, this is for you Redneckmommy, with thanks to Darkside for sending me the instructions in a message! Many of y'all have tried to help me by posting instructions on a thread, but when it came to searching back for those instructions, well, y'all know how the search function is so helpful....

So let's try this!

ok, so I've tried exactly by the directions, but I get this message in red at the top "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."

What do I do now???

I've been a defender of this show this season, and I will continue to be. But I have to say that at this point, I'm slipping to the dark side a little bit. The remainder of the season might be fantastic and I continue to withhold judgment until it's over, but, it's irrefutable now that the pacing of this season has been terminally slow.

Note that it is not "answers" I am impatient for, but rather, some damn action. Somebody DO something already! Advance the plot a little bit now and then. We've had 10 episodes now, all of it setup for this war that is coming. 10 episodes of exposition is far too many in an 18 episode season. More than halfway through the season, we should be hip-deep in the action now, looking ahead to the climax.

It's one thing if you're getting a lot of character development, but we aren't getting that either (these characters have long since been fleshed-out, and many of them are mere shells of what they once were anyway). No character development plus no plot movement = terribly boring. If the writers didn't have enough of a story to tell over 18 episodes, I think they should have come up with some side plots to keep the action moving on the island. Instead, aside from the temple attack, everyone's been standing around picking sides and postulating about their roles in the upcoming war.

Again, I am withholding final judgment, but, as a rule, you don't spend this many hours doing nothing but set up. Just MHO of course. Here's hoping for a great finish.

It's a problem when I think about what I watched for the last hour and the only thing I can come up with is "Desmond, Charlie, and Daniel all were in the episode and the normal cast wasn't".

I'm starting to get concerned that this season is going to a major train wreck. It still seems like the story is only about 50% told. I expected to be closer to the final conclusion by now.

I found last night to be interesting in the sense that they are finally at least attempting to tie the two worlds together. But, I also conceded 5 minutes in and gave up completely on trying to make sense of what they hell is going on. Last night was especially confusing because you have a lot of characters involved who we're already off the island before the bomb went off like the Whitmore clan. At least I think they were off the island already.

The only way you could possibly fully enjoy this show is if you studied for about 3 hours before each episode and had a book of notes pertaining to each character and the different timelines at your disposal as you were watching it.
