Should be a thread for general game discussion.

Anyway, i've found this back and forth between Jackson and Durant absolutely hilarious. Particularly Jackson. i know why but it's still ridiculous he got fined for those comments but his latest is even better. especially this:

Quote:
"I really didn't know what he was upset about," Jackson said. "It really wasn't that upsetting. He shot the most free throws in the league; he made the most free throws in the league. He shot the most shots in the league; he made the most shots in the league. I voted for him on the All-Star team; he made the All-Star team. We know he's a great player, congratulations."

   i still like phil, i hope he stays around he's at least entertaining

Bagels, he is an asswipe, just ignore him.

This Mavs/Spurs series is going to be fun. Dirk looks real good so far.

Actually, Portland beat Phoenix late last night, Walt. The Blazers are the only road team to steal home court advantage in these NBA Playoffs to this point.

Meanwhile, Utah lost more than a game in Denver Saturday night. Jazz center Mehmet Okur tore his left Achilles tendon in Game 1 and is done for the rest of the playoffs.

What an embarrasment for the Sun, losing at home to a Brandon Roy-less Blazer squad. I've always like McMillan as a coach.

blazers are showing some depth. i like it. i don't think they'll take the series but the suns have always been paper tigers in the playoffs.

yeah Andre Miller has a great game and not saying he's bad at all, but i don't think you can expect that to continue. then again, if nash is guarding him

Kobe Bryant only went 6-for-19 yesterday for 21 points, but the duo of Andrew Bynum & Pau Gasol combined for 32 and 25 rebounds as the Lakers beat the Thunder 87-79 in L.A. Kevin Durant was held to just 24 as Oklahoma City seemed to play extremely tight in their first ever playoff game.

Yeah, it really was. I still expect the Spurs to take the series. It should be good though.

That sucks KG got suspended for Game 2. If you watched the action happening, it seemed reasonable. There was a ton of Miami guys around there grabbing him and it seemed pretty hostile. It seemed like more of a defensive elbow than a hostile one.

It looked hard to tell, but the NBA felt that Kevin Garnett threw a punch of some kind in that scuffle and prompted the suspension for Game 2 of their series vs. the Heat tomorrow night. It's just an educated guess on my part, but it could've been an ugly scene...

If you look back on NBA history over the past few decades, some of the most remembered playoff series' and rivalries have included hard fouls and brawls. Matchups like that are talked about for years. Why does the NBA want to get rid of it completely? I understand that you don't want benches clearing and 24 guys swinging at the same time, but some of the stuff people get suspended for nowadays is ridiculous.

NOT THUG LEAGUE

Richard Jefferson looks lost on that team.

Man, the Spurs big guns are still effective, but they really are starting to look old. Of course we have been saying this for a few years now...

I was pretty surprised too this morning to hear mully & hanley talking about how much of a thug KG was, that everyone in minnesota hated him and so on.

while i can't argue the suspension if he did throw an elbow, i didn't think it was anything outrageous or that he was trying to hurt anyone

just was kind of surprising to me because i've never heard anyone call him a dirty player before...except for maybe franciso elson

Embarrassingly enough, I thought this would be a big acquisition for the Spurs. Nope.

NOT THUG LEAGUE

The people who are paying to watch the games don't want to watch a bunch of black guys fight.

I just don't understand the NBA's logic.

We still talk about Lakers/Celtics, Bulls/Pistons, Bulls/Knicks, Knicks/Heat, Pacers/Knicks, etc to this very day. Those are legendary rivalries that the NBA celebrates. All included hard play and some memorable fights. Why does the NBA celebrate these historic rivalries while at the same time try to curb any of that type of hard play in the present? You get T'ed up today if you just look at another player the wrong way.

People say the Thug League shit all the time, but it would seem that whites liked the league better back in the 80's/90's. In my opinion, the play was much more physical and "thuggish" back then. Why has viewership dropped as the NBA has taken the more physical play out of the game?

that reminded me...last night during the Bobcats/Magic game, Kevin McHale (must have been tnt's F team) was the color guy...they showed some clip from the 84 finals of him practically shoving some Laker into the stands on a breakaway to foul them. he said it was an offensive foul

probably the funniest thing i've ever heard him say...after all he's kind of the matt millen of the NBA...can't really take his analysis seriously

Van Gundy's game 2 strategy. Don't let Vince go 4 of 19, and when Wallace takes someone to the hardwood and the ref calls a jumpball get a friggin T :bom:

Yeah you werent the only one though.

Still, Dirk played maybe the best game of his career, or certainly the most efficient, and they won at home by 6. I still like the Spurs chances.

i think the "thug league" tag came with the increase of the tattoos. it's just an image. you see a black guy covered in tattoos, i guess the white man's immediate reaction is - he looks like an ex-con.

the way they call technicals now is awful. gives the refs way too much power.
