I think paying for skins is a great business model for these guys. Especially a game that you know that you may be playing for a substantial period. I remember being able to download great skins for Quake 3 Arena on the PC. There isn't any reason why you can't monetize that. Microsoft makes decent cheddar for dressing your avatar. Extending this to games is the natural extension. I bought the legendary cars for Burnout Paradise. I paid extra for the Gold Lancer on GOW2. I can only imagine that paying for unique gear for your Spartan could be a real profitable venture for Bungie/MS.

While I agree it is a very good place for them to make a buck, I really don't like it...that being said, that's not why I'm buying the legendary edition.

I want that statue.

Even if it means I'm paying an extra 70 bucks for something that probably takes a very small fraction of that to make...

Let me clarify...what I don't like is packing such items into either limited editions or pre-order bundles where that is the only way to obtain them...

...if they want to start putting out new armor permutations and charging for them on XBL, I'm cool with that.

That's kinda what I'm thinking makes sense. I mean XBL is a wonderful marketplace for that kinda stuff. And I think people like to personalize their online experience. They want to differentiate themselves. I think tapping into that psyche is a great business opportunity.
