Just heard this on mac's show. Chris Harris tweets that he will be traded back to the bears. I'm pretty excited about this since he should have never been let go.

Any secondary help should be welcome back with open arms. Although he might screw up the plan of having Major Payne playing safety.

Are they going to let them play with 3 safties? Maybe they can make some Chicago-based exceptions to standard rules (3 safties for the Bears, 10 second aloud count by the opponent's defensive line before rushing, using a 4th outfielder for the Cubs, etc...)

i think it at least gives them insurance for wright and keeps the pressure off of him to step in and start right away.

Safety Chris Harris set to rejoin Bears
April 27, 2010 12:24 PM | No Comments | BREAKING STORY
By Brad Biggs

The Bears have a new safety to pair with rookie Major Wright.

Actually, it's an old safety.

Chris Harris announced on his Twitter account that he expects to rejoin the team that drafted him in the sixth round in 2005 in a trade that could involve one of the team's veteran linebackers or a safety. The Bears and Carolina Panther have yet to announce a transaction.

"It hasn't been official," Harris told the Tribune. "But I will be with the Bears soon. It's about to happen and I am excited, man. This is great."
The Bears likely will plug Harris in at strong safety and play Wright at free safety. It certainly erases a lot of doubt about the position, where there has been nothing but a revolving door since coach Lovie Smith arrived in 2004.

The Bears thought they had solidified the position in 2006 when they drafted Kevin Payne and traded for Adam Archuleta. Harris was traded to the Panthers at the start of training camp in 2007 and flourished there, forcing 12 fumbles in the last three seasons, including one against Bears tight end Greg Olsen.

"I'm excited because I have always had a place in my heart for the Bears," said Harris, who has maintained a residence in Gurnee. "It's the team I started with. I think it's awesome.

"I don't think I need a playbook. I know the defense. I'm ready to go."

You do realize there is no rule against playing with 3 safeties, right?

There isn't a rule against playing 4 Outfielders either technically. The pitcher has to be on the rubber, but the other 8 guys can be anywhere else on the field that they want. The umpire may be a little pissed if there isn't anyone behind the plate though.

That may have resolved one of the bigger remaining issues left for this team.

On Defense, the Bears DL is the only real question mark at this point.

Peppers and Harris are two locks on the DL, but the other DE and DT are probably going to be a 4-6 man rotation starting with Mark Anderson at DE and any number of players at the other DT spot. There is no doubt they have tremendously upgraded the line with the addition of Peppers though.

At LB, the Bears have huge upgrades now that Urlacher and Pisa are back healthy. The Bears basically played the entire season with Hillenmeyer and Williams and Roach as the LB’s with Briggs. Switching those guys to Urlacher and Pisa is huge.

The CB’s are solid if they can stay healthy, which has been a huge IF lately. But Tillman is one of the best players on this Defense when healthy and Bowman was 5th in the entire NFL last year in INT’s with 6. Both of these guys are turnover machines, both have good size, and Bowman has outstanding athleticism.

At Safety, obviously some shuffling. There is no doubt that Harris is an upgrade at SS, and it’s likely that Wright is an upgrade at FS, but that is yet to be determined. He is a 3rd Round FS, although I’m yet to read a review on the kid where they don’t like him or his quality of play. Most feel this was a very good pick by the Bears, so we’ll see.

Ultimately, Peppers, Urlacher, Pisa, Harris, and Wright are all basically new starters on this Defense. That’s half the unit.

Plus it probably isn't a great idea once you put the first baserunner on.

Agree. I like getting Harris back, but I wouldnt give up on Afalava, before he got hurt he showed some potential.
