It's hard to put a close game away when the other team can get the ball and score. That's why many times it comes down to the last possession. Some people have the stomach for the last possession shots and others don't. We've all seen the star player that always struggles with the game on the line. It's not as easy as you all are making it seem.

I feel the same way about baseball

A 3 run home run to go up 5-4 in the 8th is as good as a walk off.

Ok.

I just think youre putting too much value on the actual last 3 seconds. Or is it 17?

Ill say its one skill.

Bob Horry has it. Doesnt make him the best ever.

Even if he is the greatest buzzer beater of all time, doesnt mean he's the best.

No one said that. Being clutch with the game on the line isn't a skill everyone has. There is more pressure taking a game deciding shot than taking a shot with 3 mins left. Even if you miss you know you will get many more opportunities. That last possession shot is it. If you make it your team will win and if you don't you will lose. Pressure busts pipes but it also makes diamonds.

How much of that with Kobe is simply his image? How much of it is the fact that he has 4 NBA titles?

As this link points out, statistically, he doesn't look that good. http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm

I'm not saying that is accurate but you'd have to imagine that the numbers would have come out a little more in his favor if was truly that clutch.

My mistake. The doesnt mean HE is the greatest referred to Jordan.

Best Player ever Criteria
Shooting
Ball Handling
Defense
Post game (the MJ is better than LBJ people would do well to use this)
Buzzer Beating
4th quarter performance
etc.

To me its just ONE of the many things that determine the best player.

You posted this a few years back when Cleveland went to the Finals. The stats they showed this year had LeBron with the worst field goal percentage of any player of the top players in the game when it came to last 17 seconds or so.

Well the post game argument doesnt work well considering Jordan didnt really have it in his first 7 seasons either. Although it should be much easier for LeBron to post up since he's built like Karl Malone. Too many variables come into account when comparing all time greats that stats cant really cover it. Look at Kobe's stats in Game 5. Pedestrian at best. Yet he was easily the best player on that court and controlled the entire game, and you could tell watching the game. He played a perfect game given the situation. Thats obviously a tiny example, but while LeBron's stats will compare favorably with anyone who ever played, there needs to be more to put him in the conversation of GOAT. Obviously he can reach that status in the next 10 years, but nobody knows if he will and I would think it's fairly obvious he's not there right now, although some people want to claim he is. Nobody or no game can just be great anymore. They have to be the best/greatest ever. That seems to be the mentality prevailing nowadays.

Talent wise no one has had more. The guy is a freak of nature. As great as he is I feel he would be even better if he really dedicated himself to the game like MJ and Kobe. If he did that there wouldn't be any question who is the greatest player of all time. Hands down it would be him.

That could probably be said of Neon Bodo as well.

Shaq and LB Jim have a lot of outside interests.

By most accounts and reports he has dedicated himself Kobe-style to the game since being teammates with him in the Olympics.

Sadly I have no vested interest in any team from here on out. No favorite players. No favorite coaches. No favorite uniforms. Dallas, OKCity, Da Boo, Milwaukee...everybody gone. :(

Maybe I'll adopt the Hawks for this Orlando series.

You would think you'd have had your fill of Flavor of the Month teams by now. The Spurs will welcome you with open arms.

It was moreso saying all his teams he mentioned were 1 and out, and the Hawks are very, very unlikely to advance next round so he would just have to keep picking new teams every round if he hopped on the Hawks wagon now.

The Spurs are way too Parker/Ginobili-y for me now. I was a big fan when they won in 2003, 2005, and 2007 but since then, I've just been waiting for the wheels to fall off. Those veteran bastards just keep staying alive though. They remind me of those Jazz and Rockets teams in the late 90s that stayed competitive longer than they had a right to.

They're not that old and Hill and Blair have given them a much needed youthful edge. Still as dangerous as anybody when healthy, and they are. Everyone got fooled by that #7 seed

I know I was fooled by it. I guess there's a method to Pops' madness. See, I thought the Spurs had played themselves out of the West but it appears that they were just on cruise control in the regular season.

And you're right about Hill and Blair. Hill turned into a decent little player, and Blair is a beast. I've always respected the undersized power forwards...it's just that most of them throughout NBA history have sucked. Blair doesn't seem to be one of those.

I'm just wondering about Hill's ceiling. He has dramatically improved over the course of this season, only his 2nd season.
