That division has been crap the past 2 seasons. The fact that the Sux were able to beat the Twins in the extra game (#163) to be named division champion in 2008, was insignificant-they were not good enough to truely contend for a Championship title. It was a mediocre team and this year's edition is worse still. It WAS a rebuilding year, in that they had Ramirez (a 2nd year player) moving over to play SS for the 1st time in the major leagues, as well as 2 rookies (Beckham and Getz) taking over at 3rd and 2nd. So their record is about where most intelligent fans predicted...right around .500, or slightly below. The fact that the rest of their division is so weak, is the reason they have stuck around to be NEARLY good enough. But alas, they will finish 3rd and those who bought into this team in 2009, will be disappointed.

Yet, since 2007, the Sox have more post season wins than the Cubs do. How insignificant your team must be.

The Cubs were a legitimate contender in 2008, with 97 wins, and the best record in the entire NL. They performed very poorly, unfortunately in the playoffs, rather than being on top of their game at that time. The Sux were a mediocre team in 2008, that were able to contend for a division title, only due to the fact that they played in Baseball's weakest division.

Maybe they should have operated on Soriano's brain, if they could find it, along with his knee?
How about your head case, Zambrano....TRADE BAIT?

Most Sox Fans can see the forest through the trees...we know when the Sox suck...we blame the owner, GM, organization....NOT A FUCKING GOAT......

Assuming 92 wins are needed to make the postseason, the Sox will have to go 82-55 from here on out.

I think a Toyota sign in the outfield should help getting a few more wins.

That's not happening - better hope that 85 wins is enough (and I don't think they are good enough to do that).

I have no doubt if Frank or Keyser started this thread regarding math and the Cubs and the Cubs started out 10-15 tied for last place in their division, they would be updating it as well.

Thats generally the norm for them :P

The Twins are likely going to run away with the AL Central. There is nobody capable of running away with the NL Central.

The Twins may run away because the rest of the teams in the AL central are awful.

Why must a thread predicated on gold old-fashioned Sox bashing turn into an excuse for Cubs bashing? I think the Cubs blow too. In fact, I think they are considerably worse than the .500 baseball they have been playing. I would not be surprised to see both teams finish the year with 70 wins. Pointing out how bad the Cubs are (which is also fun, to be sure, and I encourage it -- the math probably doesn't look much better for them) does not mean that all the blowhard prognostications about the collapse of the Twins and playoff runs this year and the best starting staff in baseball are forgotten.

This team should have been blown up a year ago, if not sooner, but the pigheadedness of the GM, along with the fickleness of fans that won't show up to financially support a real rebuilding operation, led the team down this path.

Why must a Cubs fan spend his Sunday evening searching thru I don't know how many pages of old threads in the Sox forum to bump something from a year ago in order to try to make a point about the 2010 baseball season? On the second day of May no less.

Sure it doesn't look very promising for either team right now, but its still the first week of May. Thats 5 months left of baseball. You cannot possibly do any sort of math right now.

Yes, Roger. That still doesn't mean he will finish the season with numbers like that.

It could be worse

I'm not really sure where to put this..

Jose Contrares is going to close games for the Phillies until Brad Lidge gets back to 100%

There is one day out of five they won't need a closer. That guy likes to finish what he starts.

Cardinals have a better record right now than the Twins.

Also have the largest lead right now at 4.5 games. Even the mighty Twins have a scant 1/2 game lead over the Tigers. I'm going to guess that the Cardinals win their division by the widest margin this year.
