Anyone else have a bad feeling about this guy in the rotation? Gave up all six runs yesterday in Spring Training, and hasn't really proven much to me (as is the obvious prerequisite for any Major League team in the Central Division from Chicago).

As a #4 starter, I think he's fine.

That was two years ago.

That was two years ago.

Not making the lame overused joke here.

But his numbers from June on last year were very good.
ERA By month
April 5.52
May 6.68
June 1.28
July 3.93
Aug 3.60
Sept 5.06
The Wins were down, but the other numbers were good. He only had 3 starts in september so factor that in to the Sept numbers.

Here are his post all star break numbers
Post All-Star
4-5 3.49 ERA 77.1 Inn 18 71 .238

Overall, I believe you can expect 12-13 wins an ERA very close to 4.00 and about 180 K/70BB

Thats good for a #3, should be very good for a #4

Can't tell without knowing what Coop had him working on that particular day.
He's been known to limit pitchers to working with only 1 pitch in a given inning.
Other than Nix & Lillibridge spring numbers are pretty meaningless, even for Teahan.

Unless there is a report of an injury of some kind, I find it hard to work up any level of concern at all over a pitcher's spring training numbers. Especially if the guy has proven in years past that he can pitch at the major league level. Especially if that spring training is taking place in Arizona.

The Sox best chance at contending for more than a division title IMO relies on Danks and Floyd outperforming Buehrle.

Spring training can be an illusion. Sometimes pitchers will get hit because they are experimenting with pitches or something else. He should be fine down in the rotation. I bet there a more than a few teams who would like Floyd as a number 4 or 5 starter.

I haven't watched his starts, but he might not throw his strikeout pitch (that big Uncle Charlie) too much in the thin Arizona air. Or as others have mentioned, he might be working on locating his fastball and changeup. I think this guy has shown enough over the last 2 years to expect 13-15 wins, close to 200 innings and a 3.80 or so ERA.

What I heard this morning was that in Arizona, the breaking balls dont break so he left alot over the plate yesterday. I'm not overjoyed at the outing, but not freaking out over PRACTICE!

Take it easy, Hasan. It's just baseball.

Last time I have called in during the last year when Dan Maneal proposed the over 12 wins for Floyd, I wanted part of this one.

Gavin Floyd has been the best pitcher in baseball over his last 9 starts. He was also probably the worst pitcher in baseball to start the year, so there's that too.

But seriously, how does this guy get only 3 wins with a 1.16 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while averaging 7 IP per start?
I mean somehow he scraped out 2 wins in his first 11 starts, and he did that with an ERA over 6!!

Whatever, W-L records for pitchers are pretty much BS, but the fact that the White Sox are 5-4 overall in those games isn't really inspiring any confidence that might have been building about their lineup, defense and bullpen.

What hotel is he staying at in Oakland and what's his room number?

Gavin Floyd hasn't had a great deal of run support despite throwing well enough to win a bunch of games lately. He literally matched the Mariners' Felix Hernandez pitch for pitch, but neither pitcher were around to figure in the decision in the end.

rhetorical question: figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply
