Kevin Leonard Orie (born September 1, 1972 in West Chester, Pennsylvania) is a former Major League Baseball third baseman. He is an alumnus of Indiana University, where he was a standout for the Hoosiers baseball team.

Orie made his Major League Baseball debut on April 1, 1997, as a member of the Chicago Cubs. It was in his rookie year of 1997 that Orie would put up his best career statistics. In 114 games played, Orie compiled a .275 batting average with 8 home runs and 44 RBI. Orie was a finalist in the 1997 MLB Rookie of the Year Award balloting, losing out to the eventual winner, Scott Rolen.

Through the first 64 games of the 1998 season, Orie got off to a dismal start, compiling only a .181 batting average in over 200 at-bats. Subsequently, on the last day before the July 31 trading deadline, the Cubs sent Orie and minor leaguer Todd Noel to the Florida Marlins for Felix Heredia and minor leaguer Steve Hoff.

Sadly, I think you may have nailed it Dr. Ken.

I was hoping to see Beckham and Castro dominate Chicago baseball over the next 10 years. Too bad.

Frank's gonna get mad!

Jim from Evergreen Park, called Gordon Bacon, Blake DeWitt. Said to look at that stats. They are similar, but both have such a small sample size right now, not going there yet.

Blake Dewitt could be Bobby Hill too before it is all over!

Such a good thing for Gordon that he is on the White Sox who know how to develop young talent. Imagine how bad he would be on another team.

I would bet right now that neither Beckham or Castro will have as good a career as Delino DeShields.

Delino was a base stealer though? .270 hitter? 13 years? 100 HR?

I was surprised to see that DeShields never hit .300 for a year.

Castro will be better than him.

How many homers do you think Castro will have at the conclusion of his career?

DeShields never even had a single season in which he hit .300.

150+, the kid just turned 21 and he is going to get stronger and his average might be better? No reason he can't hit 10-15 HR's a year.

Just looked up Delino, 80 HR's and a .268 Avg with 468 SB's...Plus Delino was a Defensive Force in the OF, Castro looking for help from The Force

So what? He's a guy that posted right around a 100 OPS+ for his career as a middle infielder. He stole over 400 bases and he got on about 35% of the time. He was way better than an average player.

There are all kinds of guys who come up and look good. Let them do it for a while. I remember people suggesting Prior would win 300 games too. It's kind of silly. If you read any MLB message boards five years ago, every moron had Johan Santana in the Hall of Fame. Now he's largely forgotten. He probably won't have the career a guy like Bob Welch had. Castro and Beckham both look like good young players. I wouldn't count on either of them doing too much.

That's fair. If he doesn't get hurt. Maybe he'll hit like Michael Young. I just don't think that's something you can count on.

Beckham was a polished 3 year college player who flew through the minors and hit well when none of the pitchers had a scouting report on him. Now that they do he is a non factor. Castro looks like a pure hitter and keeps getting better.

I don't see the Castro/Hanley comparisons though. I think he will be in the Jose Reyes mold and if he continues to work hard instead of turning into a douchebag like reyes he has the potential to be quite a bit better.

During golf today, I called Beckham an official "bust".

Judging by the looks I got, you would have thought I killed a puppy. He is a bust. If you don't have a natural position to play and you can't hit, plus you have received all of this attention, you are a bust.

So now maybe he can be the closer?

Beckham and Castro will both finish their careers well above Delino Deshields. Now Delino Jr., the jury is still out.

I was going to go Jim Gantner or Tom Herr (for Becks) but neither of those guys have any extra base power whatsoever.

No they havent. At least not the way Castro has come in and just RAKED from day one. Im not sure why youre so anti Castro. I suspect it has to do with the team he plays for.

How long does Castro have to keep hitting for you to be a believer?

And I dont get your point on Prior and even less on Santana

Those guys were both awesome until they got hurt. Of course injury can stop ANY career. Thats a risk.

Castro is a special case. He's not some young flash in the pan. He's a great hitter already and getting better.

I still think Beckham will figure it out and be a real good player.
