Newper, I'm sure you will share my grief that TWO blows have been struck AT ONCE...

Last summer, we were invited to 2 new dramas on NBC while watching the wonderfully epic best picture of the year, "Meteor: Path to Destruction". "Mercy" ("Where'd you learn how to do that?" "Iraq.") and "Trauma" ("I love my job"). Of course, these two dramas were going to change everything you THOUGHT you knew about medical dramas.

On the one hand, you had a sassy, grand standing self righteous nurse who knew everything and was just crazy enough to pull everything off in "Mercy". In "Trauma", you had a rag tag group of paramedics whose exploits were followed in the mean streets of San Francisco.

Sadly, neither one of these shows made it past their inaugural year. Both are victims of the Bottom Line Heartless NBC...and now we can only hope these canceled series end up syndicated on Lifetime or Hallmark, where they belong for future enjoyment.

It was probably unfair for NBC to try and milk the "ER" love so much that they had to green light TWO dramas to try and make up for it. That was a task, indeed, that was probably keeping the creators of the two shows up all night, sleepless and confused how to manage this. These two shows surely would have soared if shown on Rogue-Friendly Channels like Fox (with "House", the baddest ass doctor of all time), or TNT (because they know drama; have you EVER seen "Leverage"?), or USA (characters are welcome! not shunned, like at NBC).

So, America has lost two beautiful children of Television thanks to those heartless NBC executives. Really a shame.

I felt the same way when they axed Quincy and Trapper John.

WZ, I respect your reviews but Trauma just plain sucked. As a paramedic it was an insult to my profession and as a TV viewer it was an insult to my intellegence. The only place the master copies of Trauma belong are in an incinerator, so as to ensure such poorly written/acted crap will never again pollute the airwaves.

I can only speak to Mercy as I have actually watched this on a regular basis due to my special lady friend's fondness for the show. I will tell you that it was not quite up to Meteor standards, but it was quite dramatic. The lead character had hallucinations on a regular basis, and most recently was found in the basement of an abandoned, decrepit house once the second floor collapsed and she and two random children fell with her. Once in the basement, she had to perform an emergency arm amputation on one of the children. This was pretty much the day to day life of this chick. I feel especially sad since I was born on the exact same day and year that Mercy star James Van Der Beek was born. My only hope is that NBC will do a TV version of Boiler Room and perhaps get Vin Diesel to star in it.

I thought the name of the show was Emergency 1. I loved it as a kid.
