I still say play this game under protest.

Joe West is still a fucking tool. How he can still be an MLB umpire, let alone a Crew Chief, is a travesty.

Out of Here. Both of you.

And you better watch your step Coztanza. I got my eye on you.

I didn't know Bobby Jenks was dead, although it explains a lot. What do you know about Heath Ledger?

They should have not rehired any of those dopes that resigned in 1999.

Looks like MLB agreed with Hawk.

Why does Darkside want to censor truth? Probably a Democrat.

There is something to be said for West having a freaking publicist encouraging interviewers to press him on his recent controversies. That's a clear conflict of interest and he should be suspended for that foolishness. You can't have an impartial official who is also in the business of marketing himself as controversial. Can't do it.

That being said, Ozzie is a jackass, Buehrle's move is a balk, he threw his glove to show up West, both ejections were warranted, and Stone is a bitter old queen for whining that this "hurt our chance to win."

From Hawk's wikipedia page.

I didn't post here in 2004, and if I did, I wouldn't have expressed that sentiment. I just wanted Stone to call games, which he did well without referring to the Cubs as "we" and "us."

I seem to remember a few jokes about Flip and Stoney bringing their gloves to the announcers booth because of how often they said 'we' and 'us'. Nice try at revisionist history.

I'm pretty sure Stone had made a point of not employing first-person plurals. He's given people shit for it on his Score segments, I know that much.

I would start phasing Hawk out after this season. Find someone else to start doing a few games

Anyway, back to this. Hawk is right and it appears that MLB agrees with him. I say good, and that they should take a look at a few of the other "look at me" umpires in the game right now.

Ozzie said Joe West is a great umpire, said he might even be the best and complimented him on how he controls the game.

So I take that you've never used the term "we" to talk about the company you work for?

If I worked for the Cubs, I'd probably say "We won today" just like I'd say "We need to upgrade our internet website".

Those are different situations. The convention in sportscasting is to act as if you aren't employed by the team itself, and rather its broadcast outlet, thus affecting some veneer--albeit a razor-thin one--of impartiality. Even though Merkin, Muskrat, and the rest of the mlb.com beat writers are employed by their respective teams, they're still expected to act as journalists rather than partisans, and so you won't probably won't read "we lost a tough game today" in a recap of a Mets game or what have you. The White Sox are an odd duck as far as sports organizations go. Just embrace it instead of trying to justify it.

That's a beat reporter writing a story for a national website. We would be very confusing for a Padres fan reading a Mets/Phillies writeup. If Hawk was working for Fox he'd call the game differently just like Eddie Olczyk does when on NBC.

I highly doubt that the White Sox television booth is the only one in professional sports that uses the term "We" in regards to the team. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've heard it plenty of other times but I didn't ever think that it would be something worth noting.

However, let's use Stacey King as an example, who literally trash talks the other opponents during broadcasts and gets praise for it on B&B. "Get out the way STUEY!". I think that's less impartial than anything that Hawk does.

I'm also not justifying anything besides the fact that it's not a crime that a member of an organization uses the term "we" to describe a team that he is closely associated with. Just ignore it instead of trying to act like it's a crime.
