It all evens out, because there were a few pitches early on that the plate was pretty wide for.

I was watching the MASN2 feed of last night's debut of Stephen Strasburg, and noticed that the Nationals' pitcher was clocked as high as 103 MPH on their radar gun. High heat? Believe it! One guy who is concerned about Stephen's arm angle is Steve Phillips, the former New York Mets' G.M. and ESPN analyst who's now with AOL Fanhouse and is basically "Rosenbloom & Paruch's General Manager" on their SCORE Saturday morning show. Brian "The Whipping Boy" aired a little audio of Steve's last chat on their show last night before the Tigers beat the White Sox. While mentioning Stephen's stuff in the same breath with the Tigers' Justin Verlander, Phillips told the Trib columnist & "Whip" that his arm angle is comparable to former Cub prospect Mark Prior and expressed concern that Strasburg could be a prime candidate for arm trouble long term.

During the commercial break, The SCORE aired "Peter Gammons on Baseball", Peter's new syndicated feature for Sporting News Radio. The Hall-of-Fame baseball scribe not only mentioned Strasburg in the same breath as Prior, but also mentioned the top of the draft many years ago in which the Cubs drafted Prior #2 and the Twins drafting catcher Joe Mauer with the #1 overall pick. Mauer may be the best catcher ever, Gammons said.

One more thing. The White Sox are scheduled to deal with Mr. Strasburg's high heat Saturday, June 19th in Washington. It could be a FOX Sports' "Saturday Baseball Game of the Week" feature.

The speed is not everything, we look at people who can throw 90's, usually only have to throw all fields, as they may be more effective throwing low 90's with precision. And once again if necessary to launch the fireball.

Strasburg scratched from start vs. Atlanta tonight (trouble getting loose). Hope it's nothing more.

Right now, former ESPN analyst and "General Manager" if you will on 670 The SCORE's "Rosenbloom & Paruch" Saturday morning show Steve Phillips is saying "I told you so" in regards to Stephen Strasburg and the inflammated shoulder that forced him to miss last night's game vs. the N.L. East-leading Braves in Washington. Needless to say, Nationals' fans booed in disappointment when it was learned Strasburg was a "no go" last night...

The Nationals' manager has hinted that he wants to limit Strasburg quite a bit down the stretch, and certainly, injuries like this can't help.

PHILADELPHIA -- Stephen Strasburg's right arm has the Washington Nationals on edge again.

Washington general manager Mike Rizzo said the team will wait for results of an MRI exam on Strasburg before deciding what to do with their injured ace right-hander.

Strasburg strained a tendon in his right forearm in Saturday night's start against the Philadelphia Phillies. Rizzo said Strasburg went through his normal post-start workout Sunday but, contrary to earlier reports, did not throw. Rizzo said he hopes to have the MRI results by the end of Sunday.

Manager Jim Riggleman said it was "probably safe to say" Strasburg would miss his next start. Rizzo wasn't so definite and insisted there would be no decision until the MRI exam was done.

"The doctor might say, 'Don't pick up the ball,' " Riggleman said. "The doctor might say, 'Hey, this looks fine.' This is typical pitching stuff, go get 'em. But I doubt it."

Rizzo called any reports that the Nationals had already decided to shut down Strasburg for the season "inaccurate." The GM said Strasburg told him he had this type of injury in college and pitched through it.

Strasburg changed into street clothes before Sunday's game and left for his exam in Washington without talking to reporters.

He's 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 68 innings.

"I think he's a little dispirited right now," Riggleman said.

Strasburg was making his third start since returning from a stint on the disabled list with inflammation in the back of his right shoulder.

He grimaced and shook his right arm after a pitch to Dominic Brown and was removed without any warmup tosses

Strasburg was in control until he got hurt, striking out six in 4 1/3 innings while allowing two hits and a run.

The Nationals will surely be cautious with Strasburg. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft, he was scratched minutes before his scheduled start against Atlanta on July 28 and was diagnosed with inflammation in his right shoulder. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day.

"The fact that it's not in the same place as the last one might indicate, hopefully, that it's not some chronic thing in one part of his arm," Riggleman said.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said that an MRI revealed that Stephen Strasburg (forearm) has a strained flexor tendon.

Not a very big deal. He'll be placed on the DL and could be back to pitch this season but they will probably just shut him down for the season.
