is it just me or does this "rivalry" seem extremely scripted/forced....you just reminded me because I saw a minute or so of a sit down interview with Kobe and they asked him if it meant more to beat Boston and he said of course, how he had to try and keep his emotions in check, etc....just came off really insincere. Of course it was a true rivalry in the past but I don't really feel it is now and the networks and ESPN are trying to tell us it is.

Yeah it seems real forced, the networks need to make it out to be the 80s part II. I don't think that will ever really happen though, especially now that you have to think that Boston's run is done. I hope Kobe's run is done too, but sadly it probably isn't.

It is forced because the game isn't allowed to be as physical anymore. The Lakers and the Celtics absolutely hated each other in the 80's, but now everyone is friends on the court. The network just wants to hype up their product as much as possible, and ESPN is an expert at doing this.

Another thing that kind of irked me was the fact that they have Magic Johnson on their telecast, and he is a part owner of the Lakers. Isn't he there to give analysis? How can a man be objective when he owns one of the teams in the series? Methinks he should have sat out the finals telecasts. It would have improved the pregame, halftime, and postgame shows exponentially as well.

That's a good point. I had forgotten he was part owner until his interview at the end.....and yeah that's a pretty big conflict of interest. Seeing as that he's a TERRIBLE analyst, announcer- pretty much everything except a player- he should not have been allowed on the telecast. But it doesn't really matter, ABC/ESPN's NBA team is brutal- Stu Scott sucks, Barry sucks, I think Wilbon is OK in general but on the panel he sucks and feels really forced in...their studio show sucks.

see now I would have said- as I posted several pages back as the game was starting- that the refs swallowed their whistles. but, it's kind of awkward to ref a certain way the entire season and postseason then just throw everything out the window for a game 7. hey, i definitely want them to "play" and not have fouls whistled every few seconds. But it's not right to change the style of reffing or the rules according to the importance of the game

While Jackson was talking to the crowd ( Stewart Scott was asking him when he was going to make his decision about staying or leaving), the camera shot over to Magic and Kobe talking and Magic leans over to kobe and says "He is leaving" and the Kobe turns to Magic and says "No he isn't)...Then the camera went quicky back to Jaskson talking.....Not sure if this is correct, since i was reading lips. Anyone else catch that?

It would be a better rivalry if it were on NBC. The John Tesh theme made every game and series seem like life or death. I'm not joking either. I really loved NBC's coverage of the NBA and wish they still had the contract.

There has definately been something missing for me lately. I could just be feeling this way because of the terrible finals that just took place. The home team doing well probably wouldn't hurt, I suppose.

The Tesh theme did get you pumped for the game, though...

NBC had much better coverage until Marv bit somebody and they brought in Costas. Costas should stay far far away from basketball courts.

+1

It's sad that the call on the Jordan shot was not done by Marvelous.

I hope Bulls' fans everywhere got a good look at what new head coach Tom Thibodeau planned last night in Game 7. In his last game as the Celtics' top assistant, I thought Thibodeau's Celtics had a winning game plan. For much of the night, the C's forced the Lakers into terrible shooting from the field, including Finals' MVP Kobe Bryant. Kobe had a Game 7 to forget from the field, shooting only 6/24 for 23 points. Kobe hit some big shots down the stretch and Pau Gasol scored 9 of his 19 in the 4th quarter. Gasol corralled 18 big rebounds as well. With not enough production from the duo of Rasheed Wallace & Glen "Big Baby" Davis for the Celtics, the loss of Kendrick Perkins was huge in the end. The Lakers beat the Celtics at their own defensive game...

My favorite reaction was when ESPN/ABC Sports' Mike Breen threw it to sideline reporter Doris Burke, Ron Artest thanked his psychiatrist after he scored 20 in the Lakers' 83-79 win and gave Doris quite a hug on the STAPLES Center court. This from a guy who was once upon a time a Bulls' first round draft pick and was in the middle of the infamous Pacers/Pistons' "Brawl at the Palace" many years ago and is now an NBA Champion for the first time in his career.

Artest thanking his shrink and then plugging his new single while Doris Burke tried to figure out what to say and then Artest hugging him was almost worth watching all of the sloppy basketball....almost

Well I guess this is as good a time as any to make my first post. While I do respect most of the local sports knowledge dropped on this board. After a few years of lurking, I have to say there are some holes here and there. And not the kind that Rachel Nichols and Doris Burke prefer stuffed (Well Maybe). Like when Mariotti wrote that column telling Lebron not to go to Chicago, none of you (Not even that smarmy Boilermaker guy) knew that Mariotti is from Ohio. Or the fact no one has outed Jimmy reardon on retardation as someone's passive aggressive mult who only posts in the politics section of a sports message board (Stalkery-obsessed). Or how Beardown has gotten past 10,000 posts of mostly worthless youtube videos and none of you have eviscerated him enough to make him leave the dark room in his grandma's basement and go find a boyfriend. Or how about some dude posting on a Chicago board as a washed up NY rapper (Total role/identity issues Hov, but ure hoops knowledge is def respected, except for what I read about Rasheed). Which now brings me to RPB. Ron Artest was the second first round pick in '99. Just so you know, Elton Brand was the number 1 pick that year. Actually one of the best drafts the Bulls have ever had. Too bad Tim Floyd couldnt coach.

* Ron Artest
* #37
* Guard-Forward
* Los Angeles Lakers
* Height: 6-7
* Weight: 260
* Born: Nov 13, 1979 - Queens, New York
* College: St. John's
* Draft: 1999 - 1st round (16th pick) by the Chicago Bulls

Queensbridge!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's always good to have a new guy that knows sports. You're right about Mariotti. I believe if you actually check around the board you would know it's been mentioned before where he came from. Welcome aboard! Never disrespect Jay-Z again. I can't vouch for you if you ain't a part of this...

Idk man. Maybe it's time Jay-Z sits down and writes an album. His rhymes havent been that varied since the Black album. Then I get to thinking, if BIG had made 2 or even 3 more albums, how relevant would Jigga be? It's all good tho. Jay-Z is one of the better lyricists to ever breathe life into a mic. Especially with all theshit that gets pushed out to the children nowadays. Ure a fan of hip hop, and u know basketball. Not that it matters, but those two qualifications elevate u above meatball status in my book.
