Wasn't the crispy creme burger on Diners, Drive-Ins, Dives or Man vs. Food?

Spiegel strikes me as more of a double down sandwich kind of guy.

If I just turned on the radio and heard this, I would assume he was desribing a fantasy

So whats the deal?

If there is one thing, and I mean there is probably only ONE thing that bacon does not go with, its donuts.

Does he then go back in time with Craig Robinson and John Cusak and have wacky adventures in 1985?

Is it still called a hot tub after accounting for the water displacement after Spiegs gets in?

I had one at the ballpark in Sauget, Illinois. It was damn good. They also had a battered and deep-fried White Castle. That wasn't so great.

I was wondering about your opinion of cover bands.

Some people in real bands, or whatever, have some hate for the covererererers

It is my opinion that it is more difficult to write a new song (that is good ~ however you wish to quantify that) versus playing an existing song that "everyone" already likes.

my friends and I know we could be one of the best 90s-00s cover bands in Chicago if that was what we wanted to do. But, we choose to write our own material and make hybrid/samples of the one "cover" song that we do...which is really just a sample of a Rakim track.
Have we played covers in the past? yes...we had to in order to fill 2:30 hours at McHenry Fiesta Days in the summer of 98. But, that was a long marriage ago...er, time. a long time ago...

I wouldn't exactly call Tributosaurus a cover band although they do try to faithfully recreate the work of other artists. They're more like a symphony treating the rock canon as if it were classical pieces.

War Pigs- now that's a cover band. Come on out to see them at Paul Revere Park this summer!

Well, here's a chance to offer unsolicited opinion! YES!
You HAVE to play covers, generally speaking, to be making any kind of money.
Doug's band is slightly different in that they do not rely on the band as their primary source of income. I bet if he did that he'd be doing exactly what he just said, being one of the best cover bands in town.
Right now, the guys making the money are guys like Modern Day Romeos or 16 Candles or Sofa King.
If art is what is important to you, you can afford to play solid originals.
That's not to say you can't create your own thing and make tons of money doing it but that's a hell of a lot further down the odds line than making a decent living doing covers.
For us, we're going to be more or less forced into covers to get paying jobs. Maybe our originals aren't that good. I don't know.
But I doubt that any serious musician would scorn a "cover band" because for many serious musicians, just being there playing in front of your crowd is more important than what you're playing.

Sellout! :P

I keed, I keed. A mix is always a good idea, especially when first starting out. You can gradually phase out covers once people start liking originals.

I don't get the popularity of these guys. We saw them at Nellies on Halloween, and IMO they were not good. Another one of my buddies saw them within the last couple of weeks...same opinion.

I have to admit that when I was playing I looked down at cover bands. They always did make way more money than we did though. I just thought of cover bands as Illinois Entertainer stuff. Very suburban. There were no cover bands in the scene I was in. Though bands did play covers.
