From SI, Peter King noted:

Sunday night's game against the Giants was Brian Urlacher's 20th straight without a sack. Urlacher had eight sacks as a rookie in '00. He's never had more than six in a year since. His last one: 13 months ago, against Minnesota.

for linebackers, no. total tackles are. QB pressures are...and to a lesser extent, INTs.

sacks or not, urlacher is still the best defensive player in the game right now.

They rarely bring him as a pass rusher anymore. This is a non story. I have no doubt Urlacher could be a 10 sack per year player if they chose to use him as a pass rushing linebacker.

Urlacher probably leads the league in "QBs that should be sacked that escape"

Cmon. This is dumb. Most middle line backers don't get sacks through the history of the game. Jauron would blitz Urlacher more but Lovie and Rivera don't. Don't gauge Urlacher on sacks. Gauge him on how he gets that running back before he turns the corner (he's the best there ever was at that) He stuffs the middle and has gotton better at taking on blockers. He's the fastest middle linebacker that ever played the game. By the time he's done he will be the greatest Middle linebacker ever.

I'd be curious to know where other middle linebackers fall in the sack category, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

That doesn't matter - different teams run different schemes.

So because different teams run different schemes (offensive or defensive), it's impossible to compare stats for any player?

It's isn't fair to compare the sack totals of Brian Urlacher who doesn't blitz often with the sack totals of a team that blitzes it's middle linebacker regularly.

You can compare then if you'd like, but there are explanations for Urlacher not getting any sacks, and it isn't because he can't sack the QB.

Comparing Urlacher sacks is unfair since he doesn't blitz much. In the same way, it would be unfair to compare Urlacher's kills because Ray Lewis attempts it a lot more than he does.

Compare him to Zach Thomas then. That would seem a fair comparison - both don't blitz much but are sure fire tacklers.

Zach Thomas in 11 years has 16.5 sacks and the most he ever had is 3. He's made 1494 total tackles with the highest being last year at 158.

Brian Urlacher has 32.5 career sacks in 7 years. He has 773 total tackles with 151 being the most.

So much for the lovers of the Combine (40 yard time, bench presses, etc) What is this guy, 5-10, 220? A 4.9 to 5.1. It's all about the "want to".
