Oddly enough, the game that I enjoyed the most in person wasn't from the 1995-96 Rose Bowl season. It was the 2004 game against Ohio State. It was the first time since the 70's that we beat the Buckeyes and the first time since 1958 that we beat them at home.

It was definitely a "monkey off the back" type of game. Most games against the Buckeyes, we looked (and played) intimidated. But not this time. The tide shifted constantly in this game, and it seemed like the home crowd was never louder than on that chilly evening in Evanston. Basanez and Herron were so cool throughout the whole game. I still remember rushing onto the field (pretending I was a current student instead of alumni, I guess!) and thinking what do I do now? It certainly helped that my two former roommates from college picked that night game for a mini-reunion. Man, that game was a blast.

Strangely enough, mine is a NU game also. When they upset Michigan 54-51 at Ryan Field in 2000.

Anthony Thomas essentially gave the Cats one final shot with a key fumble in the final minutes.

A real marquee win for the 'cats and Ryan Field went nuts that day.

Mud, a good topic, back when I followed Purdue, I was at the game in the other topic we talked about between Purdue and Ohio State, not number 1, but my pick would be the Alamo Bowl between Purdue and Kansas State.

2001...Iowa State vs. Iowa at Jack Trice...was moved to the Saturday after Thanksgiving due to 9/11...that was my first ISU/Iowa game as a student, and it was especially great since we won it...

I was at a bar in New York City watching that game. My roommate in NYC was a NU grad as well and we were the only guys in that bar that wasn't wearing Maize and Blue. I got so drunk watching that game (and celebrating afterwards) that I almost didn't make it home. Unfortunately for the subway transit authority, I left a little mess on the 1-9 train back to my apartment.

I found this... highlights of the game from ABC, but using Dave Eanet's broadcast on WGN. I never heard the original broadcast (obviously), but I'm told it was one of his best.

I was just a kid (and a Northwestern fan), but the A-Train fumble game was the best I can remember. Wisco blocking the punt on Minnesota at the dome ranks up there too. As does the Schabert to Evans tuddy to beat OSU.

That was a great one... and one that I remember thinking that Lee Evans will play on Sunday.

I was at the game that Howard Griffith scored 8 TDs against SIU.

We had a buddy on the team who was a backup running back and we thought it might be his one chance to do something but HG kept running it in the end zone.

Game 2 of the World Series. Paulie hits the grand slam and we don't sit down the rest of the game. It was so loud that I didn't hear the fireworks go off. Then to win it with a Pods HR was so unexpected and awesome.

1982 - NU vs. NIU. NU wins to break their 34 game losing streak. Goalposts torn down and thrown into
the lake.

I was at that one. I'm not sure why I was home from Champaign that weekend. Probably to have my mom wash some clothes. I always knew someone who was working one of the gates and got in for free. Football fever came to Evanston!

Original Green Jersey Game in South Bend with Montana comes to mind....but I have been at crazy assed games in Evanston....the Michigan games....first one where the Cats kicked the winning field goal before the refs told them the ball was in play and had to do it again....the Anthony Thomas Cough game....
Games there with Michigan State always seem to be wild....it truly is hard to beat NU games for drama....the football may not be on the Alabama-Texas level, but for wild excitement, they are hard to top...but I have to think about this....it is hard for me to put a Wildcats game in 1st place.

Was anybody at the Northwestern improbable win at Notre Dame during the Rose Bowl season?
That would rank.

That game was at Soldier Field ---- more of a funeral for the Irish than a celebration for the few NU fans there.

Prior outduels Maddux in Game 3 of the NLDS.

Crowd went crazy for Randal Simon's RBI in the first and after that just watched Prior fucking Dominate.

Bulls Vs. Celtics 2009 playoffs Game 4. Bull win in 2OT.

Everyone in the building was standing from 2 minutes left in regulation till the end of game. Ben Gordon drained a 3 and grabbed his nuts to tie the game and force double overtime.

If Newper can use The 2005 White Sox...

My best college experience was seeing Ron Dayne break the all time rushing record and Wisconsin clinched the Big 10 that day I think

This is a little off topic, but I figure Hawkeye Vince and the other Iowa fans will appreciate it. In the late 80s I was just playing in my band and doing some odd jobs to make a little dough. A friend and I used to set up and break down the equipment for the Stu Hirsh Orchestra. Stu is a big guy at Northshore society weddings and other functions. I'm certain Dr. Nosiewater has cut a rug to his dulcet tones at least a time or two.

So one night we got done loading out Stu's shit at some downtown hotel and we're driving somewhere to get a drink and suddenly this big black dude leaps out in front of the car. That in itself wasn't so strange, but this guy was sobbing like a little baby. I mean how often does a weeping 6'10" brother jump in front of your car?

I roll down the window and the guy says through his tears, "Sir, please help me. My name is Anthony Martin. I play for Coach Billy Tubbs. I got separated from my team. Coach Billy Tubbs! You can call him! I have no money! I'm scared. This is a big city. Please help me! Please, sir!"

Well, this shit sounds awfully dubious to me. How the fuck did he wind up downtown with no money? I'm not about to get robbed by some road crew using that bullshit story to run a scam. I'm looking around for the other guys. I don't see anyone and this kid keeps blubbering about Coach Billy Tubbs. He seems sincere and really terrified which is kind of amusing considering how big and muscular he is. So I ask him if he plays for Oklahoma, why the fuck I've never heard of him. "Oh man. please, I'm scared in this city! I was a redshirt but Coach says I'll play a lot next year. Coach Billy Tubbs. You can call him. Please!!!!!!"

I'm starting to believe him, but I've got one more test. I ask the kid what happened to his team in last year's Tournament. Now he really starts bawling. "That bald motherfucker from Iowa hit that shot. Please help me. I'm scared!"

We drove him to the Sun-Times building and walked with him to the late night sports desk. Some crusty old dude said he would help him. Anthony thanked us profusely. True Story.

I think you forgot a couple:

2006 IU over Iowa 31-28

2007 IU over Iowa 38-20

Non football is the Illinois-Arizona Elite Eight game in Rosemont back in 05. First row in the balcony, right around center court.

Mel Junior, to be factually speaking, the Northwestern win vs Notre Dame was at South Bend, Notre Dame won the games vs Northwestern at Soldier Field, like 42-7 and another one in 1994 28-3, Ron Powlus first game.

Since others are going the non-football roue now, my favorite game ever was a 2006 Cards/Dodgers game...fucking thing went 13 or 14 innings and ended with Pujols taking Odalis Perez deep...

...close second is a 2003 Cards/Braves game where Pujols took Smoltz deep...
