I'll actually make a bet with you. Someone, maybe W_Z, should post a list of a dozen or so critically acclaimed and/or popular movies, and we'll see which of us has seen fewer on that list.

For a small tangent here, is there any movie that has been rendered basically meaningless as Roger & Me has been? Pretty much the whole movie was about the evil car companies being rich and living the good life while they close plants. In hindsight, they didn't do enough of the supposed "evil" things they were doing in order to save the whole city from destruction.

A dozen is fine. In no particular order...just off the top of my head:

1. Citizen Kane (naturally...) - Surprisingly for me, yes!

2. Casablanca - Nope. Pretty sad to have not seen a true classic such as Casablanca, but yet to have seen The Black Hole and Superman III.

3. On the Waterfront - Nope.

4. Dances With Wolves - Negative.

5. 2001: A Space Odyssey - Seen parts on TV many times, but basically a no. Too bad because I think it pioneered a lot of ideas that Star Wars gets credit for; would be interesting to watch.

6. No Country For Old Men - Nope. Would probably like it though.

7. Barfly - No.

8. The Sixth Sense - Affirmative! This movie will forever be associated with its twist, but I think it's a great film even aside from that.

9. Crash (2004) - No.

10. Roger & Me - No, maybe it's good but I'm not a big Michael Moore guy. Michael Moore himself is a big guy, though.

11. American Beauty - Negative.

12. Wizard of Oz - Many times! Even though it is recognized as a classic, this is still an under-rated film. Especially for its time.

I really didn't like Crash. I thought it was forced, overwrought, and tried too hard to pull on your heartstrings in a transparent, Lifetime TV movie sort of way.

i thought the exact same thing about certain elements...but not in all. there were some extremely badly written scenes that are too "Get Up Out Of Your Seat In Anger"; i do think, though, that sandra bullock was fantastic in it.

haggis' script was overwhelmingly overrated and shouldn't have won for best screenplay. but some of it was fresh.

Am I the only person in the world who thinks Casablanca is a better movie than Citizen Kane?
