I know there are examples that are positive, but in general, it seems like it's just a gimmick to make an extra couple bucks on each ticket. Best example I've seen to date: 'Airbender'. I'm not talking about the movie itself (it sucks bad, BTW), but the 3-D is awful. There were long chunks of the movie that I wasn't even sure if my son and I were watching the 3-D version.

Add up the extra cost and the fact that the 3-D glasses give me a headache most of the time and I think I'll stick with 2-D unless I hear unbelievable reviews about a specific movies 3-D.

man those 3d tv's blow as well, I mean most people just got HD and now they magically just go tthe 3D technology man i don't want to wear fucking glasses when watching tv, and what do people already wearing glasses do? they're fucking discriminated against...

I really do think 3D is going to wind up getting people at Sony fired...you don't invest that much in something to have is bust and keep your job in the process...if I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat crow, but I see no way that their big 3D push pays off...

Shamalayn actually filmed the Last Airbender in 2D and then added some 3D stuff once it became all the rage after Avatar came out. I haven't seen it but I hear the effects are pretty terrible and the bad 3d just makes everything look muddy

"avatar" is the only movie i've seen in 3-d that's been worth the price of admission. this technology is going to take some time and a lot of money to perfect. i wouldn't go near a 3-d TV at this point.

That explains a lot of it. There were times when the pictures was blurry with the glasses. I took them off just to see if it was better. Either way, the movie sucks.

Avatar sucked. I purposely saw it in 2D instead of 3D because I wanted to see if the movie itself held up to scrutiny. And of course it didn't, it sucked big time. Therefore the 3D version sucks too as far as I'm concerned unless you are judging it as a tech demo rather than an actual movie. I have no interest in watching tech demos.

no that's exactly what i mean. IN 3-D. because it is a technological achievement like i've never seen before. i had no interest in seeing it in 2-d or ever again. but for what it was, it was worth it. for the 3-D.

I thought UP and Avatar looked good in 3D. IMO, UP was also good movie, too.

Don't they have to agree on a standard on 3D TVs (not all the glasses work for all TVs), refine the technology, and have things actually broadcast in 3D before it becomes a worthwhile purchase? I imagine that's still at least several years away.

Friend of mine was in town today and wanted to see Airbender....I decided I wanted to see just how shittty the 3D for it was...indeed, it's pretty bad...there wasn't anything in the film that was as good as the previews for the other movies I saw...

The Disney Store at Woodfeild Mall has a 3d TV that doesn't require glass to watch. I'm surprised that technology isn't being promoted.
