7th round of Supplemental Draft today, the Bears drafted star BYU RB Harvey Unga. Unga entered the Supplemental Draft when he was kicked out of school for violating the school's honor code of no pre-marital sex. Evidence left behind in the form of a pregger girlfriend.

Brad Biggs wrote:
At 6-1, 244 pounds, Unga is a power back who also can contribute as a pass receiver and pass protector. He has some potential as a one-back, and also could even be considered at fullback. He ran a 4.65 40 yard dash, which undoubtedly hurt his stock.

The Bears showed consistent interest in Unga, as they were one of 20 teams that attended his workout and they reportedly flew in to Chicago for an interview and physical.

The Bears used the 12th pick of the seventh round to take Unga. They will subsequently forfeit their seventh round pick in the draft next April.

Multiple scouts said Unga had a third to fourth round value.

Interesting move, as Unga is a true "power back" and will push either Wolfe or Khalil Bell off the roster.

Len Pasquerelli waxes poetic on Unga in a piece from before the draft:

Can he play linebacker?

No news on whether or not Harvey's girlfriend is orange.

Looks a little green too. It's one of those things that alcohol shouldn't even be an excuse. I'll never understand why these athletes sleep with girls they wouldn't have a problem sleeping with if they were poor. I'm aiming high. I'm trying the make the First Lady bend over or some supermodel. Low hanging fruit wouldn't interest me.

You know when you're going down the list of people you slept with the wife of the president would be near the top even if it were Barbara.

Okay, Anyhow...

Everything I'm reading about this guy is great. He worked out with a lot of teams and there was a ton of interest in him...so why did he fall to us? I want to like him and run out and buy his jersey but I'm skeptical. It's hard to get excited about this and I hope he pans out but there is something off here.

Maybe he and Josh Moore can get a day care program set up at Halas Hall.

Lot of talk about Unga being the top player in the Supplemental. Ultimately though, this is the latest anyone’s been drafted in the supplemental in 20 years. If he’s a FB, great. I think he can battle there and possibly stick. If he’s a RB, it could be an uphill battle with our current depth chart.

I think his 40/time scared a lot of teams off - 4.65. But for a 244 pound back, I don't think that is all that slow. He's the BYU Cougars all time leading rusher, but that is akin to being the smartest Cub fan.

The odd thing is .... does he fit this system? I never really remember a power back in a Martz offense, unless he's going to line up a FB/HBack.

They took a flier on talent with a 7th round pick. They would not have done any better with a 7th rounder next year.

Shonn Greene ran a 4.59 and a 4.66 (pro day, combine) and he's a pretty damn good NFL back who can run away from secondary players when in open field.

My guess is he's being looked at as an H Back.

Unga signed a 4 year contract today.

Bears released two to bring thier roster back to 80:

> WR Vic Hall
> DT Jimy Sadler-McQueen

Trust me dude. 4.59 or anything above 4.5 isnt gonna run away from NFL secondaries. Maybe it appears that way cus the Jets o-line is the shit, but Shonne Green is quick. Not fast.

Agreed Unga will prolly be an H-back/fullback type in this offense.
