Watching the Bears game on Sunday and seeing the interception by Urlacher made me start thinking is Urlacher becoming the best MLB ever in the game? Watching him read Pennington and start his jump on the ball many seconds before Chad threw it and grabbing it was tremedous. It was safety like. He's done that a couple of times this year. he also has gotten better with shedding blocks and reading plays, jumping the gaps before he can be touched.

Thoughts?

Yes. He'll be the best ever when his career is over.

His size and speed create amazing SMASH

he seems to just run through some people now when hitting them

he is like Jefferson in Fast Times when he found out they destroyed his car

Urlacher is by far the best LB in the NFL, and will become the best ever.

Just because he doesn't act like a raving loon (like Butkus), doesn't mean he shouldn't be game planned for every single game independently of the Bears defense.

His skills add a different totally different dimension to the game.

F' Ray Lewis.

He'd get my vote right now as best MLB ever. Butkus may have been more dominant in his day than Urlacher is now, but Urlacher is much more highly skilled (pass coverage) and athletic (speed, agility, etc) than Butkus. I think Urlacher's speed also gives him a decided advantage over Lewis in his prime.

Great point Coach. Reading the sentence best LB ever seems a bit too much, but when you really sit there and think about it its going to be mighty tough to name a better linebacker when Urlacher's career is over. What I think is funny (call me a Manning apologist) is that you can't be considered the best QB of alltime unless you win the big one. But who really says that about any other position? Even at the MLB position which is typically the QB of the defense (some argue its Mike Brown with the BEars, but I think you should actually have to be on the field more than 60% of each season to get that title), no one has ever said Butkus never won the big one or will they say Ray Lewis and LT got Superbowl rings making them a tad better than Brian. Of course that point will be moot after this season anyway, right boys? :)

That's just the way it is Woody. The QB has the most control of the outcome of a game. He's got the ball in his hands more then anybody. So I think it's fair. I always hear people say that Marino never had the team. Yes he did. He was on some good ball clubs that could have won it. Lesser teams have won it through the years. Manning has 5 or 6 years of being in his prime in my mind. He'll win one before he's done.

I have a hard time arguing against Ray Lewis. Always liked him and the Ravens for that matter. If we are talking right now in the NFL, it has to be Urlacher.
