But Buehrle is exactly the same as he has always been. When people think about guys they remember as "great" pitchers, they remember wrong. Gibson didn't throw a 2-hitter every time out. Hell, he lost 9 times during a season many people consider the best ever. Pitchers go in and out of form. If I had a buck for every time I heard someone say Buehrle was finished I could retire. He's as good right now as he has ever been.

And I know it's fashionable to believe that a pitcher simply concentrates on the batters he faces and the pitcher he is facing doesn't matter, but that's not reality. Pitchers pitch the games they're in. Conditions matter. Nolan Ryan led the league in ERA and went 8-16. That's a horseshit season no matter what danny bernstein and Baseball Prospectus have to say about it.
