Peavy (0-0) 5.2 8 H 7R 7ER 3 BB 2 K 2 HR 8.44 ERA

Peavy showing improvement in some areas. Well, just one: he went an extra 2/3rds an inning over his first start.

What part of a 1.34 WHIP and .287 BAA doesn't scream ACE to you?

What part of a .580 winning percentage over 320 starts doesn't scream ACE to you?

But Buehrle is exactly the same as he has always been. When people think about guys they remember as "great" pitchers, they remember wrong. Gibson didn't throw a 2-hitter every time out. Hell, he lost 9 times during a season many people consider the best ever. Pitchers go in and out of form. If I had a buck for every time I heard someone say Buehrle was finished I could retire. He's as good right now as he has ever been.

And I know it's fashionable to believe that a pitcher simply concentrates on the batters he faces and the pitcher he is facing doesn't matter, but that's not reality. Pitchers pitch the games they're in. Conditions matter. Nolan Ryan led the league in ERA and went 8-16. That's a horseshit season no matter what danny bernstein and Baseball Prospectus have to say about it.

Ok everyones definition of ACE is different. If youre talking durability and consistent above average performance, then 56 qualifies.

But, if so what do you call Halladay, Lee, Wainwright, Johan etc

Because 56 is certainly not in that group

First of all, FUCK YO SIGNATURE

Secondly, when did horse become better than ACE?

Buehrle is a horse. 200 inn every year

Those guys above are horses who also dominate

What pitchers would you be intimidated by if your team played em in a 5 game series?

Johan, Felix, Lester, CC, Wainwright, Lee, Jimenez, Halladay

ACES

Not Johan anymore. Maybe not even Lee.

Felix and Halladay for sure.

Don't forget about Lincecum.

I feel when Lincecum starts to slide, the fall will be precipitous. It may have started already. Watch his motion in slo-mo, there is no way his wiry frame can produce that much torque as he ages.

Funny I thought Halladay was the questionable one. Santana is having a bounceback year and Lee is still there.
