Spiegel used to be in a musical group called Brother Brother. If you ask him nicely, I bet he'll show you his band picture.

Ah, given Mac and Matt's history/experience vs Mitch's, this is all them. I doubt Mitch is big into the parody band scene.

Next time they plan something like this they need to check out what else is going on that night. No doubt most who would think about going to this event will be at the top concert of the summer at Soldier Field Friday night.

How many tickets have been sold thus far? It can't be that many if they are still promo'ing the hell out of it and yelling at us that tickets are "limited" and "we better act fast!".

When do they start completely lying and saying that it is sold out but they are releasing a "super secret" hidden block of tickets that people need to call in and win?

This event could have been really cool, but instead the open bar closes when the band starts, there will be a parody song set played (for 42 total dollars?) and....other stuff.

What were they thinking when they planned this?

Doing this might make one go blind. Not a big fan of mustard at all. I'll skip that.
The Ping Pong tourney sound like "a thing" though. 8)

Is there going to be apple bobbing and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, too?

Exactly! It seems easy at first, but there is still a lot of work to do between your legs.

I hear you can get tix at Nellie's now for $10....can you say Panic? This thing is going to be a disaster.

If they'd done that from the beginning, they'd have sold out the tickets and wouldn't have to consume otherwise saleable on-air ad time to pimp this event.

I still don't understand what they need that much a ticket for, when they have sponsors for everything, likely chipping in the booze and food etc in exchange for being mentioned as sponsors at the event and on-the-air every time they advertise this event.

If the money from ticket sales (1000 tix X 35$ per = $35K) is going into the budget for the Danny Mac show for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, just say so. People will appreciate the honesty.

I just called over there and they are $35 and available through Ticketmaster so I guess what I heard is wrong...they're still trying to get $35 for it. I agree, they'd make it up on the volume at $10 but never forget...Greed is good

Judging by the timing of this event, one could speculate that it was thought up around the time mac and meat and crew clicked over to their 2nd year deals and possibly it was true that CBS radio/Mitch told Mac he needed to cut his operating budget for Year Two.

So Mac's choices were:

1. Take the hit for the cut out of his own paycheck.
2. Tell his staff (Matt, K Sayers, the producers) that they all were getting 10% less
3. Come up with a way to make up the reduction in budget.

'Listener supported radio' is not a radical concept. If that's what they are trying to do, then say so.

I see this event solely in response to the massive success of the B&B roast. Don't know if it was a mitch brainchild or an ego trip by the show but hope it was more mitch. The constant ad spots come off creepy and too self congratulatory for the accomplishment of one year of show (although I listen every day and like the show now). I know they're desperate to sell tix now but it's really damaging their image.

Plus I'm so sick of hearing the parody songs on the show and spots I don't want to hear them again for free let alone paying for it. They do a great job with the songs I just wish they'd back off the accelerator with that whole thing. A lot. Add "I went to ___ school with Les ____" to that list as well. Do your greatest hits with some nostalgia after 5 or 10 years, give it some time to breathe. I don't need new lyrics for the 12 days of bearsmas every 6 months. I hear Mac's inner-Harry coming out more and more lately. He's going to need Spiegel to reel him in or something. Good luck with that.

There is way too much bitching about this event that I wouldn't even attend if it was free. Just stay home and let it go. The bitching is on par with Gloopan Kuratz and his henchmen.

Apparently the deal is $35 for the open bar, etc

Show up after 10, and it's only $10 bucks
