In an article by Scott Merkin Kenny says he will trade anyone 'within reason'.

"Well, if there's an opportunity to win a World Series, you got to do what you got to do sometimes -- within reason," Williams said. "But it's got to be, you have to have a real opportunity. I think we have an opportunity. So, if there's something out there that fits ...

I don't want to see them trade Hudson or Viciedo for a rental player. If they trade one of those two it should be for a player who will be with the organization beyond this season.

Quote the whole article. It also seemed to indicate that he is not sold on the White Sox being a contender until they keep winning against good teams.

The good thing is, in a suprising twist, the Sox have had a pretty good record throughout the year against teams with good records. Also, they own the Tigers as much as the Twins own the Sox.

And the way the Royals own the Sox :D

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer Tom Haudricourt has an article up saying don't be surprised if the Sox make a run at Fielder. I'd love Kenny to do it and I do think he'll trade for a hitter but I would be very surprised if a deal for Fielder happens.

"Don't be surprised if the Chicago White Sox make a play for Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder before the July 31 trade deadline. Sox general manager Ken Williams is a known wheeler and dealer, and with his club climbing back into the playoff race, he is looking for another hitter.

Paul Konerko is having a big year at first base for Chicago but the Sox have no real threat at designated hitter. Alternating Konerko and Fielder at DH and first base would provide a potent righty-lefty threat in the middle of the lineup.

Williams has some intriguing options that might tempt the Brewers, such as right-hander Gavin Floyd, reliever Sergio Santos, pitching prospect Daniel Hudson and young third baseman Dayan Viciedo.

If Melvin waits until the off-season as many expect to entertain serious trade offers for Fielder, the White Sox might make a play for Washington first baseman Adam Dunn, who is drawing interest from several clubs."

I don't see the Sox dealing their starting pitching away. That's the strength of this team.

I would love to see the Sox get Fielder but I would be surprised if Uncle Jerry was willing to pay him the money he is looking for.

Luke Scott's name has been floated around so I guess I'll add him to the list. Scott is 32 years old and primarily plays left field but has played 9 games at 1B. He has 16 home runs this season after hitting 25 and 23 in '09 and '08 respectively. Scott makes $4M this year and is arbitration eligible in '11 and '12. He could get expensive for an aging power hitting.

I think there are better options available and not having to deal with Andy the Clown is always a good thing.

Luke Scott for the last 4 years (including this season) has had an OPS over 800. I'd love to see him playing DH (or RF) and being able to use Kotsay as a bench/role player. His Runs Above Replacement is typically in the 20 range. I'd take it.

Doesn't Scott make about $4 million this year with 2 more years of arbitration upcoming? That could make him pricey.

Just because he is arbitration eligible doesn't mean you have to offer it or pay for it. They could go to arbitration next year, lose and still only be paying 7-8M which is less than Konerko (who I'm guessing is gone next year). They could always trade his rights away as well.

Freddy has only had like 2 bad starts all year. As the #5 he was coming out of spring, you cannot be anything but very pleased with what he has done overall this season.

Very pleased. His ERA is deceiving because, as you mentioned, the great percentage of his starts have been quality, and a few really bad ones have blown that up. Saying that, the innings he's piling up are more than the past 2 or 3 seasons combined for him. If the White Sox were to acquire a starting pitcher, I wouldn't be upset about it. For that matter, this team is much better than I thought they would be back in May, but because they could improve in any number of areas (starting pitcher, an extra lefty in the bullpen, a left handed power hitter), it'll be hard to complain too much if they do make a move.

I want to see Kenny add a bat now and wait for the waiver deadline (Aug 31) to add a pitcher if need be. Hudson needs a few more starts to show what he can do.

It sounds like Hudson may have to be included in a deal to get a bat.

Guys, ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine reported yesterday that Dan Hudson and Tyler Flowers or Brent Morel could land Adam Dunn on the South side. However, the impression Bernsy gave yesterday, Dunn's nothing more than a rent-a-player for the last 2 months.

The only trade I would include him in is for Fielder and it doesn't look that deal is going to happen.

Bernstein is speculating. Chances are, either him or Konerko is gone after this season, but it's a guess as to which one stays (or goes), and probably comes down to money.
