White Sox In Serious Discussions For Edwin Jackson
By Luke Adams [July 30, 2010 at 1:51am CST]
1:51am: If the two sides were to agree on a deal, the second prospect heading to the D'Backs would also be a pitcher, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).

1:14am: The White Sox are in "serious discussions" for Jackson, tweets Rosenthal. Chicago would send Hudson and another prospect to the D'Backs in the proposed deal.

12:26am: The White Sox are looking into acquiring Edwin Jackson from the Diamondbacks, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Although the Sox have been linked peripherally to Jackson for much of the week, reports to date have indicated that Chicago's only interest in the right-hander would be as a chip to facilitate a three-way Adam Dunn trade. Rosenthal suggests, however, that the Sox may be interested in acquiring and keeping Jackson, rather than flipping him.

While Chicago covets Dunn, they are becoming less convinced they'll be able to work out a deal with the Nationals before Saturday's deadline. As such, they've been focusing more on bolstering their starting rotation. Rosenthal writes that the Sox are exploring other pitchers in addition to Jackson, as they look to replace the injured Jake Peavy.

Peavy's current replacement in the rotation, Daniel Hudson, could be a key piece in a potential trade for Jackson, according to Rosenthal

Hey, if the whole dunn thing doesn't end up working out I know where you could get a first baseman. He might actually not veto the trade since he wouldn't have to move.

KW would have to be off his fucking rocker to even consider Hudson for Jackson. Happ got the Phillies Oswalt, Saunders got the Angels Haren and Hudson is going to get...EDWIN JACKSON...the guy with the 5 ERA in the National League...the guy who the Tigers were desperate to deal like a hot potato(e) after a career year.

I agree gd. I don't understand why they would be pushing for another starter. Hudson is fine, go get a left handed bat.

You guys really think Hudson is fine? He didn't look fine his last out. I guess you can try to limit his starts, but that's going to tax the other four guys. Maybe if you get that bat you can slug your way over his shitty outings.

i don't understand this one at all....heyman @si says the sox are going to keep this guy instead of flipping him for dunn which was an original thought of the sox, maybe they get him and go after Berkman who can be had for mid to low level prospects

I agree with you, but I'll take my chances with Hudson over Jackson.

Here is what I would do, offer the Cubs nothing but salary relief for Silva. The salary relief is significant enough that Hendry should jump at the opportunity. Also, since Silva is signed through next year, he gives them a hedge if Peavy is not ready from Day 1. If he is ready, they could probably peddle Silva in the same type of deal.

He's got AL experience and will have something to prove against the Twins. That's good incentive for this year.

I think Jackson makes a shitload of cash also .... have to look that up.

EDIT: $8.35 million next year

Just on the salaries alone, I would rather stay with Hudson.

Silva - horrible choice for the south side. He's a gopherball waiting to happen in the Cell.

Jackson - if you get the Jackson of 2009, this is a good deal (13-9, 3.62 with Detroit). If you are getting the Jackson of 2010, not so good and worse considering the salary committment in 2011. They better be flipping him for Dunn if they do acquire him.

I don't think the Cubs can move Silva. I'm not sure what it's all about but I heard someone saying that he was a worse clubhouse guy than Bradley. He has a pretty bad reputation apparently, and he isn't much of a pitcher either.

Not sure how Jackson fits into the long term plans of the Sox. I know they want to win now but Kenny also has to have an eye on the future. They have Peavy, Buehrle, Danks and Floyd locked in for next season. They can easily resign Garcia if he ends the season strong and they LOVE Chris Sale (who will be a starter). I'm not sure where Jackson and his $8.35 salary fits into the equation next season. If the plan is too flip Jackson to Washington I have no idea why Rizzo would want Jackson over Hudson and a prospect. I'm very confused.

It's not Hudson for Silva, it's Hudson for no one.

Cowley says the chances of Hudson starting tonight are zero. If so, who starts tonight?? Lucas Harrell is scheduled to start for triple A Charlotte or are they going to go with a bullpen game with Tony Pena starting??

Something BIG brewing ....

Joe Cowley wrote:
Hold off on the Jackson trade talks folks, KW has something big cooking and if he gets it done Jackson trade is off.

Next tweet: Been told the chances of Hudson starting tonight is almost zero.

Next tweet: Jackson-Hudson deal is not off, it's just being delayed while KW tries to shock the world. Hudson for Jackson might still happen either way.

Next tweet: Here's what I've been told - "If KW pulls this , the Sox will be considerably better by tonight.

So who would be in the "shock the world" category?

What do you think KW is brewing up? Could it be a trade for a current big name pitcher (Greinke? Probably not but anything's possible I guess) I have faith in KW for making a good deal because I think the Sox have their own prospects well scouted in that they know which prospects are good to trade and what not.

I think he wants a bat .... "shock the world" is quite a statement.

Are the Tigers selling?

He loves him some Miggy Cabrera.

Shocking the world is alot to live up to. Josh Johnson and Hanley Ramirez would shock the world. Corey Hart and Prince would be a 2nd degree shocking of the world. Lance and wandy would not be as shocking.

How about Gio Gonzalez? What degree of shock would that be?

I would run down the street Butt-Nekkid if KW got Miggy but I think the Tigers still feel that they are still in contention for the division and so they are still buyers.

Interesting, Dan Hudson will not pitch tonight for sure and Lucas Harrell may be called up from Charlotte to start against the A's tonight. I hope KW has something huge up his sleeve.
