So Sean started yapping how for eve how old he is, he was on a video game back in the day. Of course, for any NES fanatics we knew the answer was Tecmo Super Bowl (though now I think about it he might have been on Sega's Joe Montana football). All of this got me to thinking how much I loved and hell, still love Tecmo Super Bowl. So here are some random lists and what not on the best video game ever created and in my opinion set the standard for all football games to have a true "season mode."

My Top 5 Favorite Players to Control
1. Randall Cunningham
2. Bo Jackson
3. Mike Singletary
4. Barry Sanders
5. David Fulcher

Top 5 Favorite Teams
1. Chicago Bears
2. Philadelphia Eagles
3. Cincinnati Bengals
4. Indianapolis Colts (yea, they sucked but I was a Colts fan)
5. San Francisco 49ers

Dumbest thing I ever did...
Granted i had just gotten the game and I was a youngin' but I should have known better. However for some reason I did something extremely stupid. I was up 21-20 against the Giants (I was the Bears) and I was getting the ball kicked off to me with virtually no time left. I had fumbled twice on kickoffs earlier in the game so I thought I better run out of bounds. The ball was kicked deep into my endzone and I ran a straight line diagonally down....and went out of bounds while still in the endzone. Yep, I lost 22-21 on an unforced safety.

Other things...
I find it funny how when you would win the division title every coach looked like Bill Parcells.

The music was absolutely classic. Doug, you should make some crazy techno rock mix out of it.....

I loved Bob Golic and Christian Okoye as well. I liked Barry Word too. Kansas City was up there for me. God, remember how the Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms looked even worse on that game?

When I was in college we busted the game back out and it was out of control crazy with the games we all played. Good times.

Thurman Thomas was a beast. Nobody could beat me if I picked the Bills.

ooohh...i forgot about thurman....
yeah, he's right up there....

i got my hands on some ROMS of the old nintendo games for computer. they don't work with Windows XP, but they were great for win 98 and 2000.
you could SAVE at any time!!!!!

so, i played with the raiders once and bo jackson had over 1000 yards rushing in one game b/c i would keep resetting until i scored a td or caused a fumble every play.

I always liked to take a decent DT and just rush inside with the greatest of ease. They'd get a million sacks and be able to stop the run all the time.

Wow, so much Tecmo love. I used to play this all the time. After school we'd go to a buddy's house and play out a season.

My top two were Okoye and Jackson. I agree with the Chiefs too with Word and Okoye, they were awesome but I think that was Tecmo Super Bowl.

Don't forget about LT. Taylor could block any kick and nobody could block him.

Sorry WR. Didn't read the title closely enough. I usually combine Tecmo and Tecmo Super in my mind.

Did anyone play the original Tecmo Bowl then? That was about 1988. Tecmo Super Bowl came out about 1991. I was an original Tecmo Bowl guy but I played Super Bowl later but not as much.

The original only had like 12 teams if I recall and they couldn't use the actual team names just the city.

Oh yea. Original was based off the 1987 playoff teams I believe. They did use the full team names, but no logos were used in the game. Loved it. Walter Payton and Eric Dickerson were beasts in that game.

Joe Montana was UNSTOPPABLE on the original Tecmo Bowl. My entire offensive scheme was to hit Rice on every play until I scored. And Tim McKyer intercepted nearly every pass thrown his way. Walter Payton was probably the fastest player in the game.

To quote myself...yes, I'm still right.

Agreed Kid and WR, Payton was unstoppable. I seem to recall Dexter Manley coming off the end could blow past people and, yes, Fridge was fast and could blow through any blocker up the middle.

I was just thinking how sweet it would be to make Yahoo FF emulation Tecmo style...

I would like to share a site with Tecmo Super Bowl for NES on the web.

everyvideogame.com/play-nes-Tecmo_Super_Bowl_(U).htm

The sound is second rate, but it's right there for ya.

I've played alot, and there are saved games in the archive. Enjoy.

If you played the dolphins, you could beat the computer every play on the shotgun curl routes, even if they "picked your play".

As for the original Tecmo Bowl, I had a version that DIDN'T have Eric Dickerson on the colts. I can't remember who they had instead (Bentley, maybe? Verdin? I don't know). When I went to a buddy's house, they DID have Dickerson. That sucked.

I remember it took me forever to win the Championship with the Colts in the original Tecmo Bowl.
You had to defend with Duane Bickett and I always went against the Giants who would kill you with the Bavaro play that couldn't be stopped even when you called it.

Tecmo Bowl, RBI Baseball & Tetris - just thinking of those makes my thumb hurt.

I don't remember those early football games allowing you to make substitutions. How did Salisbury get a virtual jersey?

You had to screw with depth charts almost every time you played, IIRC. It was a pain in the ass - on Tecmo Super Bowl, I always switched John Taylor and Jerry Rice because John Taylor always had better routes than Rice, but I was a huge fan of Jerry.

I forgot about Bavaro, he was unstoppable also.

Other stars of the original Tecmo -

Dan Marino - completes everything to Clayton and Super Duper
John Elway - could throw and run
Ronnie Lott - destructive
Fred Young (Seattle) was a monster on D
Kevin Mack - would just knock people over but was slow IIRC
Herschel Walker - beast
Karl Mecklenburg
Dean Biasucci - could knock 50 yarders in
Darrell Green - fast

Ahhh, memories. Someone should dig out an old system and have the 1st annual CSFMB Tecmo Tourney.

I used to always put Glen Kozlowski in at Wideout for the Bears and tried to see how many sacks I could rack up with Chico.

Go figure. The most popular thread in the S&R area has very little to do with with S or R.
