I heard you'll be leading it so you tell us?

At that point I will be busy following the White Sox in the playoffs. bigfan probably will be too so we need another Grand Marshall.

Tied for first in August and this is what is talked about? Maybe another bat? Starting pitcher off waivers? John Danks kicking TWINKIE ass? No......a few empty seats in a year where attendance across the league is down during a recession. Cub fans need to go away and sell Wrigley Out. It sure is helping.

Question is: Does he beat it to images of Maria Sharapova or no? If he does, he's definitely a fan.

Good point, except, well, you know, Hawk bringing it up during the broadcast as 'disappointing.' But hey, much easier to blame the Cubs/Cubs fans

I believe only two people actually referenced Cubs attendance during this thread.

Both of them..............Sox fans. Just sayin'.

And a Cubs fan started this thread. And its not the first thread he has started on the subject of Sox attendance.

So when Hawk, Ozzie, Kenny, and the Sox flagship radio station point it out, it's ok. But when a "Cubs fan" points it out, then they're just doing it because Cubs fan like to brag about their attendance championship?

I think its a tired and stupid argument all together, no matter who points it out.

If I was a Cubs fan, I'd be more worried about the giant mess that Hendry and Rickets have to deal with rather than how many (or how few) people are going to the turnstyles at the Cell.

I started thinking about this again after I talked to a guy the other night who claimed to be a huge NASCAR fan. When he didn’t know they used to race on the beach at Daytona and he couldn’t tell me who won the last race at Bristol, I had to start questioning how much of a “fan” he really was. How can a guy who doesn’t even give a shit know more than you do about something you describe as your “passion”?

When I’m passionate about something I have a voracious appetite to find out everything I can about it. It seems to me people are getting more ignorant and more opinionated at the same time. Rick made reference to my age having something to do with the way I view baseball. He’s correct about that, no doubt. To some degree we’re all products of when and where we grew up.

The late sixties and on through the 70s were my formative years and they coincided with the end of the post-WWII “golden age” of baseball. I can remember memorizing the numbers that were assigned to alphabetical listings of pitchers in the Wrigley Field scorecard. I don’t say that because I think it was any great thing. I did just it because I was bored between innings. I’m sure other kids may have done it too. Now they won’t let you be bored between innings. You’re constantly bombarded by some kind of audio or visual stimulus. Even at the most old-fashioned ballpark, Wrigley Field. It really doesn’t lend itself to the creation of a thoughtful fan. A kid today has to go out of his way to become an intelligent fan. That’s why someone like immessedup17 stands out to me. I could talk to twenty or thirty guys his age on the street without running into a fan like him.

That’s the thing I enjoy about this forum. Motherfuckers is passionate. You’ve got all different guys, different backgrounds, different ages, but they all care about something enough to spend time arguing about it. If that’s a “meatball”, I’ll wear the label. I may think Doug EP is an asshat for liking Joe Satriani but I respect the hell out of him for being passionate enough about it to think I’m a douche because I don’t.

"Real fans" don't get bored between innings.

They had an announced crowd of 32,033 last night for the second of this series. I'm not sure what the walkup was, but MLB announces tickets sold when it comes to attendance these days. To me anyway, that doesn't seem honest. Just because they announced 32,033, doesn't necessarily mean they had that many in the seats...It seemed pretty full to me.

An "announced crowd" includes all tickets sold, including walk-ups. C'mon SHARK, you're slipping!

That's why it's impossible to tell what attendance really is. I think most teams have followed the Cubs lead and scalp their own tickets, although probably not to the degree the Cubs do.

How is it impossible? You can sell the ticket as many times over as you want but a seat still only holds 1 person.

Right, but they're not counting the number of people that actually enter the park. If they sell the ticket to themselves, they really haven't sold the ticket.
