I don't know if that will be the official name but on Monday it will be announced that a long term deal for a doubleheader in Indianapolis will be played between these four teams.

Indiana
Purdue
Notre Dame
Butler

Purdue and Indiana will never play each other so I would presume that the games will alternate by year from Purdue/Notre Dame,Indiana/Butler and Purdue/Butler, Indiana/Notre Dame.

What a great idea for all four programs and much better than the increasingly lame Wooden Tradition that Purdue used to play in.

I think this is the first time that Purdue and Notre Dame have scheduled a game in basketball since before Digger Phelps was afraid to play Purdue. They did play in the NIT a few years back.

That sounds great.

What is the story with Digger and Purdue? I have some inlaws that talk about ND being afraid of Purdue. It never really made much sense and since I do not wanna ever discuss things with my inlaws I just ignored it.

This is what I understand from articles on the situation.

Basically, Purdue and Notre Dame used to play against each other a lot. I don't know if it was a yearly thing but for some reason Digger Phelps refused to schedule Purdue and even remarked to the media "There are no roads that lead to West Lafayette". It was believed on the Purdue side that Phelps was afraid that he would lose too often to an in-state rival and instead scheduled other teams.

One of the most enjoyable things in the last 3-4 years of Purdue basketball has been watching him squirm when Purdue came up. Sometime during this last season, he did buy into the team and was very complimentary. Maybe he was trying to curse us. If he was, then it worked.
