Very true.

Spanky, however was a Twins fan. As is bigfan and IrishBoy. Presumably some of the others too. Funny, we hardly heard a peep from these guys on anything baseball related until the Sox started slipping a bit. I'm not sure what stereotype that spanky is talking about, but so far the only one proving true is that the Sox success brings Cubs fans out of the woodwork.

I don't give a fuck who Cub fans do or don't root for. Just don't promote the canard that Cub fans never think about the Sox. Most of them were giggling and high-fiving last night. Great. They're just like us. GO PADRES! I hope those bastards lose 100 games.

Again, proving the stereotype completely false, the Sox fan finds a way to turn a crushing loss to the team they are battling for 1st place - into a post about the Cubs and their fans.

I just can't figure out why they say those things about you Sox fans. Totally baseless!
What are you talking about? It's pretty clear that a ton of Cubs fans were reveling in the White Sox likely falling out of contention in this thread.

As I said, the stereotype is that "White Sox fans enjoy it when the Cubs lose more than when the Sox win". This thread is showing me that is just as true of the fans of the Cubs. I didn't even say anything negative about the Cubs. I simply pointed out the logical fallacy is that Cub fans are above rooting against the White Sox or "they don't care what the White Sox do". That is totally false. Lulz.

Exactly.

Sox fans take shots at the Cubs when they are down, and this thread proves that Cub fans do the same to the Sox. The end.

Maybe even more true. Shoutouts to Jim Thome? Is that because he's a Hall of Fame level slugger or because Cub fans cared more about the Sox getting beat last night than they did about their own team?

This.

Thats ok. Let them have thier fun now. We'll get the last laugh when this team clinches the division on October 1st. They can have the last word, cuz the last laugh as got the better taste.

Most Cubs fans aren't affected if the Sox win or lose. Most Sox fans aren't affected if the Cubs win or lose. As fun as it is to take the opinion of the fringes of a fan base and use them to generalize everyone is...

THere are meathead fans for both teams. There are true fans out there that really don't care one way or another. There are Cub fans out there probably pulling for the Sox a little bit. There were probably some Sox fans in '07 pulling for the Cubs.

What spanky and others in this thread fail to realize is that the stereotype he keeps point out is just as much prevelant is his fanbase as it is the Sox fanbase.

Who knows. Every so often I get a strange feeling about a team. Maybe I'll have to eat crow all offseason, but I am not jumping ship now. I still have full confidence in this team even though its been a rough go lately.

I don't dislike the Sox. I find their fans' Pollyanna attitude amusing, especially on this board, and like seeing it deflated. Especially when you have always been the first person to rip on people in the Cubs section, then bitch and moan like, well, Hawk every time someone does it over here.

Last night was a kick in the dick but they can still win the series. Gavin needs to shut the Twins down and not put the Sox in an early hole.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Delmon Young wear one tonight. :eye:

Please explain your use of the term Pollyanna.

If I understand what you are trying to say, what's wrong with Sox fans having a positive attitude about the team they cheer for? Why is that funny to you when that feeling is deflated? Are you jealous because the Cubs team and organization is a farce and that Cub fans have been getting screwed for decades upon decades by owners/management that don't give a rat's ass about them? Or, do you just get off on seeing other people fail or be disappointed.

The attitudes you should be finding amusing is those of Cubs fans. "This is the Year" and "It'll happen next Year" sure sounds Pollyanna-ish to me.

Gavin Floyd needs to nut up big time tonight. His last outing was plain-ass awful.

Thorton should have plunked Thome last night.

Seriously? That makes no sense at all. Yes, lets put 2 runners on base when you are trying to close out a game.

I do put the loss on Thornton, or maybe AJ for calling the pitch (although that had to be a location mistake.) If you watch Thome at all when he was here, throw the breaking ball low and away or the cheese UP and in. thornton throws gas, but perfectly straight, and that one was where you would put it on a tee.

Why not? Putting Thome on base would have required Gardy to replace him with a pinch runner taking Thome out of the game for good.
Then Thorton or another closer would face the bottom of the order. One strikeout and a DP would end the game maybe at worst you tie instead of a goddamn walk-off homer.

I guess I just want the Sox to show some stones and bean someone. Everyone loves Thome, so why not go after him.

There is a time and place to show stones, that inning in that situation is not it.
