i think benson should play first and second down then bring in jones for third down. rotate jones to first and second every 4 series. don't forget jones is still a 1000 yard rusher this year. our running game is not the problem!

I think Benson has shown consistency the last couple of weeks and he's better than TJ

As stated elsewhere, I tired of watching TJ dance before hitting holes, but mostly of him ducking out of bounds instead of turning up field, taking (or giving) a hit, and picking up three or four more yards.

Benson, for all of his ego/personality problems, hits holes with authority and runs at defenders. He looked like the superior back today.

fair enough, I think these last weeks of the season should be basically like training camp and a position battle between Jones and Benson and I have faith in Lovie that he will start the better player like he has done in the past

I have a dumb question.

Why can't we run screen passes or little dinks to Jones in the flat? He has good hands, and the Pack used to do this to the Bears all the friggin' time!

If Benson has another game like this vs. the Rams, start his ass!

I don't care who starts, but Benson needs at least half of the carries for the next two weeks. The Bears are in an enviable position of having the luxury of experimenting at this late date. Give him the majority for the next two weeks, see how that bitch shakes out.

IMO, the coaching staff should ignore the #1 #2 dynamic, and both RBs to be ready to run.

I guess Turner didn't think Benson had it today, Nas.

i didn't look at the box score but i think it's because they didn't have that many plays. rex only had 19 attempts. it seemed like the defense was on the field 80% of the game.

How do you only run the ball 21 times with the way the Grossman was throwing the ball today?

I've been wondering this for numerous weeks now. The running game has been very good in the last several weeks, IMO; I can't understand why they continue to throw so much. It's so aggravating.

i don't agree. this dumbed down offense sucks. even if rex is playing bad you need to air it out. throwing stuped 1 yard passes doesn't do anything. the bears only had like 40 offensive plays due to turnovers and the the hester return.

I see a lot of "They need to split carries". Benson had 9 carries and Jones had 12. That's not a big disparity. Plus, Cedric got a lot more PT than in the past. They are doing the right thing.

If Lovie isn't taking Grossman out of the starting lineup for his poor performance, he's certainly not going to take TJ out.

Why not throw TJ and Benson out there together? If not in the same backfield, then split TJ out wide (like Reggie Bush).

Although, something like that requires some imagination on offense...

Does anyone remember Payton and Anderson in the same backfield?

However, if I had to pick, give Benson his shot. With Grossman playing so poor lately, it would be nice to have two experienced (healthy) running backs going into the playoffs. It was nice to see Benson get the corner and take it to the house yesterday. Don't think TJ would have made it to the corner, Benson is much more explosive.

TJ is not a bad back, he's 1000 yard rusher, but Benson is better. You can just see it when he carries the ball. I'd like to see them both in the backfield as well, or TJ in the slot on third down. You could see the D was winded in the 4th quarter, this team needs 30+ carries a game from a punishing running back to keep the chains moving and to loosen up the opposing defense.

I'm ordering my 32 jersey right now!!

Um... true, they only had 40 offensive plays due to turnovers, but that was because THEY WERE AIRING IT OUT. Those turnovers didn't come on running back fumbles, John. The Bears have ALWAYS been a running team and need to continue to do so. Just because we have a quarterback who has flashes of greatness now doesn't mean the entire philosophy of a franchise should be changed.

A Super Bowl will only come via pounding the ball with the likes of Jones and the speed of Benson.

ugeuth, i understand where everyone is coming from but i kinda think dumbing down the offense is what is killing rex. when you have a "gunslinger" qb you have to let him air it out or he's worth nothing. that being said i'm not sure rex is gonna lead us to a superbowl on his own so yeah pound the m-fer!

John, while I believe your intentions are good, I don't think you are seeing the big picture when it comes to Rex's gunslinging tendencies. While I may slightly agree that if a kid has the talent and desire to make the big play happen then we should allow him to do so, I certainly do NOT agree that "letting it fly" whenever he gets a chance is the best thing for this team. I also don't see how running the ball 70% of the time (for example) or throwing the damn ball away when pressured is "dumbing down" the offense.

i'm not saying throwing the ball away is dumbing down the offense. i was refering to the 3 yard slants that all of sudden came showed up in their game plan. i'm all for running the ball more but you realize once this happens they're going to start seeing 10 men in the box like last year. if this happens is rex going to have the confidence since he's been throwing nothing but high school passes the last two weeks.
