If you extrapolate their winning percentage (.583) over 162 games it comes out to 94.4 . That said, I think it's reasonable to believe they may fall a game or two below that total. So lets say they win just 92...the Sox would have to go 27-15 the rest of the way, to get to that total. With the remaining games VS the Twins (4) Red Sox (4) and Yankees (3) mixed in, that is one hell of a task. For the Sox to win just 27 of the 42 remaining games, they need to win at a .642 clip. Thats WAY over their season win %. Once the division has been clinched, the Twins will likely use bench players and starters from their September call-ups in a few games, so yeah...I wouldn't bet the over on the 94 win total myself. But I would bet the under on the Sox winning even 90.

I'm not living in fantasyland believing the Sox can actually win this thing, Steve. But even though the Sox appear to have the tougher schedule, a whole lot of it is at home. And the Twins play most of their remaining games away where they're just two games over.

Thats a real solid point Joe. The Sox have done much better at home. But as much as the Twins are not as good on the road, they seem to be on a roll the past few weeks (winning 7 of their last 10 on the road) . Whether that continues, remains to be seen. Injuries, a spectacular contributions by a team's September call ups...several things still may factor into it. But it doesn't look promising. The thing that gets me, is how guys that had been so good (pitching especially) suddenly went sour.

I still think the Sox have another hot streak in them- win 9 of 11, 12 of 16...something like that.

After this series though, probably not going to be enough to catch Minne.

What's very disturbing in the first 2 games of this series is the fact the Twins have scored first in the bottom 1st and that the White Sox have been playing from behind much of the time. Let's see if tonight's starter Mark Buehrle can keep these Twins off the board if the rejuvenated Carl Pavano does the same tonight to the Sox in the top half of the very 1st inning.

What's also remarkable about these Twins is that they continue to win without key players. They've been without closer Joe Nathan all season, but they have also gotten use to playing without star first baseman Justin Morneau. Justin's season appears to be over, thanks to ongoing symptoms related to a concussion, which Justin suffered last month in a game vs. the Blue Jays in Toronto.

I think you're right...Carl Pavano threw a Mark Buehrle-like quickie vs. the White Sox on a Saturday night the last time he faced the Southsiders. It was over with in just around 2 hours.

Yep, I remember that. It was over in time to go to the bar and forget about it.

Yep, I remember that. It was over in time to go to the bar and forget about it.

If I recall, the game went so quick, WGN's CW9 aired an impromptu episode of the irritating Jim Belushi and "According to Jim" & "Family Guy", with WGN America airing yet another episode of "America's Funniest Home Videos" with Tom Bergeron because it only went around 2 hours...

Question for you.
Does Hawk cost the Sox "new" fans?

Probably. He certainly doesn't help. And despite the caterwauling I hear all the time about "not being corporate" and all that, whenever the internetz runs one of those "who is the worst announcer in baseball" polls, Hawk Harrelson is always featured prominently. 100 Helens can't be wrong.

Don't stop now boys = 2

EDIT while posting this he said number 3.
Why in the world does he consider this phrase good luck when his team is skidding thru the mud since he started this shit???

So that was a good clean play, even though he didn't even go for the base? I need clarification here for when things are clean and when things are beanworthy.

These guys just need a win and a well-played game. As bad as this stretch has been, a 4 game lead is not insurmountable.

Keyser,
How do you feel about following this team all year and than seeing them shit the bed and missing the playoffs?
